CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series VII Championship at Rancho Murieta Country Club in Rancho Murieta

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (October 10, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2016-2017 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series VII Championship at Rancho Murieta Country Club in Rancho Murieta.

Lodi resident Justin Gums shot 6-under par 138 and Roseville resident Sienna Lyford shot 2-over 146 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series VII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Rancho Murieta CC.

Gums picked up his first win of the 2016-2017 season by posting back-to-back rounds of 3-under 69. Overall, he’d card an eagle and seven birdies to go against just one bogey and a double-bogey.

He’d get his eagle on the par-5 8^th in the second round, helping him shoot a front-nine 33 to keep control of the lead. Gums was coming off a second place finish at the Fall Series VI Championship. He was the only player to break 70 both days.

Finishing tied for second at 142 were Reno’s Charles Osborne and Alamo’s Ryan Grauman following final rounds of 71 and 72, respectively. Osborne was awarded second place following a card-off.

Both Michael Shaw of Pleasanton and Davis resident Griffin Long finished T-4 at 144 following rounds of 69 and 71, respectively. Shaw was flawless in the finale, posting three birdies with zero bogeys.

In the Girls’ Championship, Lyford also picked up her first victory of the new season. But she had to put in some extra work to get it.

Lyford had a final round 71 to finish tied after regulation with both Belinda Hu of San Ramon and Foster City’s Faith Low. Lyford finally emerged victorious following a three-hole sudden-death playoff.

Trailing by four shots after a first round 75, Lyford got back in it by posting four birdies to go with three bogeys.

Hu also shot a final round 71, while Low had her second straight 73. Hu would be awarded second place following a card-off. Simar Singh of Los Altos, winner of the 2015  California Girls’ Junior, came in fourth at 148 after a 78.

Both Katherine Zhu of San Jose and Fremont’s Mika Jin shared fifth place at 149. Jin had grabbed the first round lead with a 71.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship Krishan Patel of San Jose took the title by three shots, shooting a 75 to come in at 148. Leonardo Viera of Castro Valley was runner-up at 151 after a 78.

Third place went to Cameron Keith of Alamo at 152, while San Jose’s Gregory Lee was fourth at 153. Yusuf Ahmed of Folsom was fifth at 154.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Alyssa Yee of Davis shot a final round 82 to eke out a one-shot win over Zoe Offield of Stockton. Yee was helped by back-to-back pars on the closing 17^th and 18^th holes.

Milpitas’ Cynthia Zhang was third at 161. Both Rachel Shaw of Pleasanton and Kate Lim of Pleasanton shared fourth place at 165.

Next up on the 2016-2017 season calendar is the Fall Series VIII Championship, slated for Oct. 15-16 at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series VI Championship at Greenhorn Creek Golf Club in Angels Camp

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (October 3, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2016-2017 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series VI Championship at Greenhorn Creek Golf Club in Angels Camp.

Pleasanton resident Noah Woolsey shot 6-under par 138 and Concord resident Yealimi Noh shot 2-over 148 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series VI Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 (par-73 Girls) Greenhorn Creek GC.

Woolsey picked up his first win of the 2016-2017 season thanks to some clutch play down the stretch. He’d birdie holes No.14-No.16 in succession for a second round 70, helping him hold of runner-up Justin Gums of Lodi by a stroke.

On Saturday, Woolsey took the first round lead with a solid 4-under 68 that featured five birdies to go against just one bogey. In Sunday’s critical final round, he’d start slowly out the gate with a front-nine 36.

Gums did his best to try and catch Woolsey. Coming off a first round 72, he’d shoot a 67 that featured seven birdies to go against just two bogeys. Gums wrapped up his round with back-to-back birdies on the 17^th and 18^th, but Woolsey held firm, making pars on the holes.

San Jose resident Matt Lloyd finished third at 143 after a final round 71. Alexander Chin of Pleasanton and Ashkaan Hakim of San Ramon finished T-4 at 147 following final rounds of 71 and 73, respectively.

In the Girls’ Championship, Noh got her second win of the 2016-2017 season after holding off three-time defending JTNC Girls’ Player of the Year Sabrina Iqbal. The clincher would be a clutch birdie on the 18^th in Sunday’s final round.

In the opening round, Noh grabbed the lead with a solid 71 that featured an eagle (hole No.1) and three birdies to go against three bogeys. A day later, Noh fell back to a 77 but came through when she had to.

Iqbal, who was looking for her fourth win of the new season, was within three shots of Noh following a first round 74. On Sunday, the Pioneer High junior crept closer with a front-nine 1-under 36. Iqbal’s undoing would be a double-bogey on the 16^th followed by a bogey on the 17^th.

Katherine Zhu of San Jose took third at 151 following a final round 73. San Mateo’s Kiran Sangha and Belinda Hu of San Ramon finished T-4 at 155 after rounds of 77 and 79, respectively.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship Will Clark of San Jose shot a final round 76 to come back and defeat co-runner-ups Justin Hopkins of Danville and Ethan Jaehn of Fremont by a stroke. Hopkins had opened the second round just a shot behind Clark, while Jaehn was tied with Clark entering the final round. In a card-off, Hopkins would be awarded second place.

Cupertino’s Rishab Ragineni came in fourth at 166 after a 79, while Eric Ni of Dublin was fifth at 167 following an 84.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Samira Pal of Cupertino had a final round 82 to come in at 168 and defeat runner-up Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas by a stroke. Zhang shot a final round 85.

Third place went to Meghan Paracuelles of Folsom at 170, while fourth place was claimed by Jaclyn LaHa of Pleasanton at 171. Hannah Sangha of San Mateo was fifth at 173.

The shot of the championship came from Beck Harvey, who aced the 150-yard 13^th hole during Sunday’s second round.

Next up on the 2016-2017 season calendar is the Fall Series VII Championship, slated for Oct. 8-9 at Rancho Murieta Country Club in Rancho Murieta.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series IV Championship at Haggin Oaks Alister Mackenzie and Arcade Creek Courses.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (September 13, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2016-2017 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series IV Championship at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento.

San Jose resident Thomas Hutchison won a Junior Tour record third straight JTNC event at Haggin Oaks over the weekend with a six under par 138 total.   He is now three for three this Fall season with three tournaments and three victories.   Meanwhile Concord resident Yealimi Noh shot 141 a two day total three under par to pick up her second Junior Tour win of 2016.

Hutchison, who will be representing California in the USGA Sate Team Championship later this month, has been red hot lately; which bodes well for California.  At Haggin Oaks the rest of the field did not make it easy on him and he had to work for his this record third straight victory.  Drake Mendenhall from Granite Bay had two great rounds and was off to the first round lead with a 67 which included six birdies.  Hutchison who shot 68 in round one pulled into a tie with Mendenhall with a very solid 70 on the McKenzie course in round two.   Mendenhall had a 71 on Sunday leaving the two players tied at six under and heading into a sudden death playoff; Hutchison secured the victory on the par five first hole with a birdie.

Rounding out the winners in third place was Vijay Srinivasan from Fremont.  Vijay missed the playoff by one shoot 71, 68 for a five under two round total.  He was also one of two players to shoot a day two low round of 68.  All in all Griffin Long, Kevin Huff and Connor Motherway were all contenders with two day totals that were under par.

In the Girls Championship Flight Yealimi Noh picked up another Junior Tour victory with her win at Haggin Oaks and finished off a great summer of play.   Beyond winning twice on the JTNC she qualified for match play in both the USGA Women’s Am and Junior Girls; a very impressive level of play.  Noh’s two day total of three under 141 was the only girl to break par during this event.  She started hot with a 69 and followed it up with a very solid two birdie two bogey 72.

Roseville’s Sienna Lyford and San Jose’s Sabrina Iqbal finished in a tie for second at 145.  Lyford shot the low round of the day for the girls with a 70 on the Arcade course on the second day.  Lyford took second in the tie breaker and Iqbal took third.  Iqbal has now medaled in every event of the Fall Series.  The three time JTNC Player of the Year is showing no sign that she is willing to give up that title.

In the first flight Steffi Lin of San Ramon is on quite the hot streak herself.  She has now won three straight Fall Series event events just as Hutchison has.  She picked up the latest victory at Haggin Oaks with rounds of 73 and 75.  She took the lead with a day one 73 and never relinquished it; both rounds were the low rounds of the day.  Walnut Creek’s Skye Mingming also shot a day two low round of 75 which helped move her into second place.   Jacqueline Lucena from Chico and Linette Jun from Cupertino shot matching 77, 76’s for a third place tie.  Both very solid rounds for these up and coming players.

The Boys First Flight ended in a two day tie with a total of 148 between Collin Yee of Davis and Krishan Patel of San Jose.  Krishan got off to a day one lead with a low for the day of 72 for the first flighters.   He played well on day two with a 76 but was reeled in by Collin Yee who shot 70, the only round under par for the first flight over the two days.  They went to a sudden death playoff on the first hole, a par five, Yee made birdie and won it there.   Third place in this flight was claimed by Seung Lee of San Leandro who played very solid and finished one shot out of the playoff with a 149.

Next up on the 2016-2017 season calendar is the Fall Series V Championship, slated for Sept. 17-18 at Ridge Creek in Dinuba.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series III Championship at Rancho Canada East and Laguna Seca GC

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (September 6, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2016-2017 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series III Championship at Laguna Seca GC in Monterey.

San Jose resident Thomas Hutchison won his second straight Junior Tour event on Sunday when he shot two under 139 at Rancho Canada’s East Course and Laguna Seca GC.  Sabrina Iqbal of San Jose fired a one over par 143 to pick up her second JTNC win of the Fall Series.  Both players had an extremely good summer, each winning NCGA Junior and JTNC Players of the Year.  There doesn’t seem to be any sign of them slowing down in the Fall.

Tom finished the regulation 36 holes in a tie with San Ramon’s Jack Gardner, who had a very good tournament himself.  Jack had one of the lowest rounds of the day at Laguna including a chip in on the 36^th hole for birdie to pull into a tie with Hutchison and force the playoff.   Hutchison secured the win early in the playoff with a birdie on the first hole at Laguna Seca.

Rounding out the Boys Championship Flight winners was Ryan Grauman who played his way into third place by shooting a 70 on day two at Laguna Seca.  Ryan’s one under 70 was the low round of the day on day two.

As is so often the case Sabrina put together two solid rounds , 72 followed by 72 and won the Girls Championship flight by nine strokes.   Entering round two Sabrina was neck and neck with Cupertino’s Bibilani Liu who matched Sabrina’s day 72 with one of her own.  Liu struggled a little on day two getting off to a slow start before coming home with a 37 on the back nine.   She ended up tied with San Jose resident Quynn Duong for second at 152.  Liu’s strong back nine was the difference as she won the tiebreaker to take home second place.  Duong is playing well taking third place just one week after winning Fall Series

San Jose’s Jackson Koivun took home first place honors in the Boys First flight with two good rounds of 78 and 74.  His second round 74 was the only boys first flighter to break 80 on day two at Laguna Seca.  So far this Fall Jackson has picked up a first and second place finish.   Steven Chen took second place in the flight with a two day total of 157 and rounding out the group was Alexander Iniakov and Mitchell Hoey tied at 160.  Alexander took the third place tiebreaker with a solid back nine on Sunday.

San Ramon’s Steffi Lin and Fremont’s Selena Tang finished Sunday in a tie for first, both shooting a very good 157 two day total.  Neither player could get much separation at all as they both shot 77 day one and 80 day two.  Lin won the first hole of the playoff with a par on the very difficult par four tenth at Laguna Seca.  Jaclyn LaHa rounded out the group with a 163 for third place.

Next up on the 2016-2017 season calendar is the Fall Series IV Championship, slated for Sept. 10-11 at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 29, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series II Championship at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister.

San Jose resident Thomas Hutchison shot 7-under par 137 and San Jose resident Quynn Duong shot 5-over 139 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series II Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 San Juan Oaks GC.

Hutchison, the 2015-2016 JTNC Boys’ Player of the Year, got his first win of the new 2016-2017 season thanks to solid play over both rounds.

In Saturday’s opener, the Pioneer High senior had an eagle on the par-5 11^th and four birdies to go against just two bogeys. A day later, the UC Davis commit added six more birdies to go against three bogeys to hold off runner-up Lucas Carper by two shots.

The win was Hutchison’s third in 2016, tying the JTNC Boys’ record for most wins in the same year.

Following a ho-hum opening 72, Carper, of San Jose, made a charge with a 67 that included six birdies and just one bogey. Also making a run was third place finisher Ashkaan Hakim of San Ramon. Hakim, who shot a first round 74, had a second round 67 featuring an eagle and four birdies.

Carmel’s George McNeely was fourth at 142, while Joshua Quarles of Pacific Grove and Vijay Srinivasan shared fifth place at 143.

In the Girls’ Championship, Duong got her first win of the 2016-2017 season, holding off runner-up Sabrina Iqbal.

Coming off a first round 76, Duong was solid, posting a 73 with three birdies and just two bogeys.

Iqbal, fresh off a win at the Fall Series I Championship and her record third straight Girls’ Player of the Year crown, slipped to a 77 in Saturday’s opener. She’d rebound with a second round 74, but still fell two shots shy of catching Duong.

Coming in tied for third at 153 were San Jose’s Angela Liu and San Ramon’s Jacqueline Ha after final rounds of 76 and 79, respectively. Liu would be awarded third place following a card-off.

Both Ty Akabane of Danville and Brooke Riley of Manteca finished T-5 at 154 after rounds of 74 and 77, respectively.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship Maximilian Ramirez of Watsonville and San Jose’s Jackson Koivun came in tied after regulation at 9-over 153. After a four-hole sudden death playoff, Ramirez came away as the winner.

Steven Chen of San Jose was third at 156, while Nathan Wang of Fremont and Krishan Patel of San Jose finished T-4 at 157.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Steffi Lin of San Ramon took the title with a score of 154, defeating runner-up Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas by six shots.

Three players—Selena Tang of Fremont, Pleasanton’s Kate Lim and Cupertino’s Linette Jun—finished T-3 at 163.

Will Del Biaggio had the shot of the event, making an ace.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 23, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the  Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at Fall Series I at Cypress Lakes Golf Course in Vacaville.

Nikolai Friedman of Corte Madera shot 2-over 146 and San Jose resident Sabrina Iqbal shot 6-over 150 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Cypress Lakes Golf Club in Vacaville.

Friedman picked up the first Boys’ win of the 2016-2017 season thanks to a stellar second round 4-under 68 that included five birdies and just one bogey. In Saturday’s first round, Friedman was unable to pick up any birdies en route to carding a 78.

Both Cooper Hunt of El Dorado Hills and Carlos Arieta Winsett of Los Altos were second at 147 after final round scores of 74 and 76, respectively. Hunt had a chance to force a playoff with Friedman but bogeyed the 18th. Arieta Winsett also had a shot at the title but suffered a critical double-bogey on the 17th. Hunt would be awarded second place in a card-off.

Iqbal, the 2015-2016 JTNC Girls’ Player of the Year, picked up right where she left off. The Pioneer High junior had back-to-back rounds of 75 to hold runner-up Jacqueline Ha of San Ramon by s a stroke. For Iqbal, the win was her fourth in 2016 and 18th career JTNC crown, tying her with former junior sensation Casie Cathrea for most JTNC victories.

Ha had rounds of 76-75. Finishing in third place at 153 after a 79 was Rocklin resident Nicole Schroeder.

Livermore’s Alexandria Christeson was fourth at 154, with Pleasanton’s Annie Liu taking fifth at 156.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners in Tour Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 2, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Tuesday at the Tour Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

Lafayette resident Ryan Burnett shot  even-par 142 and defeated San Jose’s Lucas Carper in a playoff and San Jose resident Sabrina Iqbal shot 8-under 134 to win their respective divisions at the Tour Championship held Monday and Tuesday at par-71 Poppy Hills GC.

Burnett got his first win of the season, coming from behind with a stellar final round score of 68 to tie Carper after regulation. In the sudden-death playoff, Burnett won with a par on the first hole (No.1).

Having started the day five behind Carper, Burnett began with a ho-hum 1-over 37 on the front-nine. On the back-nine, he’d catch fire, carding four birdies with no bogeys for a 31. A clutch birdie on the par-5 18^th got him into a tie with Carper.

Carper, who’d opened with a 69, was unable to get anything going. He’d card a 73, posting two birdies to go with four bogeys.  Three of Carper’s bogeys came within his final six holes.

San Jose’s Thomas Hutchison, who was looking for a record fourth win of the season, finished tied for third at 143 along with Reno’s Charles Osborne. Hutchison, winner of the recent NCGA Junior Championship, had a final round 71, while Osborne shot 73. Hutchison was awarded third place after a card-off.

In the Girls’ Championship, Iqbal picked up her fourth win of the season with a dominating performance.

Coming off a win two days earlier at the California Women’s Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links, Iqbal posted stellar back-to-back rounds of 67 to win by 15 strokes. The Pioneer High junior finished with 12 birdies to go against just four bogeys.

Iqbal’s total of 8-under 67 tied the JTNC record for second-lowest winning score. The record is 11-under held by former junior sensation Casie Cathrea.

San Ramon resident Yoonhee Kim, who came into the event with six wins this season, and Cupertino’s Bibilani Liu finished tied for second at 149 after rounds of 72 and 73, respectively. Kim, who played in her final JTNC event before heading to UC Davis, was awarded second place via a card-off.

Doodle Yuen of Los Gatos and Tzu-Yi Chang of Morgan finished T-4 at 150 following rounds of 76 and 77, respectively.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship Krishan Patel of San Jose had a final round 77 to come in at 13-over 155, defeating runner-up Steven Chen of San Jose by two shots. Chen had a final round score of 79.

Nathan Wang of Fremont was third at 158 following a 76. Livermore’s Darrell Oneill was fourth at 162 after a 78 and Alexander Iniakov was fifth at 163 after an 80.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, San Ramon’s Steffi Lin had a final round 81 to come in at 163, defeating runner-up Adora Liu of Fremont by a stroke. Liu shot a final round 81.

Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas was third at 67 after an 86. Madison Wu of Dublin and Cupertino’s Samira Pal finished T-4 at 169 after rounds of 84 and 85, respectively.

The Tour Championship concluded the 2015-2016 JTNC season. Next up on the calendar is the 2016-2017 Fall Series I Championship, to be held August 20-21 at Cypress Lake Golf Club in Vacaville.

The season-concluding CIG-sponsored Junior Tour of Northern California Tour Championship got underway Monday at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

Boys Championship

San Jose resident Lucas Carper jumped into the lead, posting a solid 2-under 69 that included a hole-in-one on the par-3 2nd hole.

Carper, who’s looking for his first win of the season, aced No.2 and added an eagle on the par-5 9th to go with three birdies and five birdies, giving him a one-shot lead over Reno’s Charles Osborne.

Osborne had a steady day, carding three birdies to go against two bogeys.

Six players, including Palo Alto resident Ahmed Ali, are tied for third at 71. Ali. along with San Jose’s Thomas Hutchison and Alamo’s Ryan Grauman, is looking for his fourth win of the 2015-2016 season, which would set a new JTNC record.

Hutchison, who came into the championship, leading in the points race for Boys’ Player of the Year, opened with a 72. Grauman shot a 75.

Girls Championship

San Jose resident Sabrina Iqbal, the reigning two-time JTNC Girls’ Player of the Year, grabbed the early lead by posting a solid 4-under 67.

Iqbal, who’s coming off a win at the California Women’s Amateur Championship, posted five birdies to go against just one bogey. With a win on Tuesday, Iqbal will claim her fourth JTNC title this season. The women’s course record at Poppy Hills is 6-under 66, set by winner Camille Orito during this year’s NCGA Women’s Amateur Championship.

In second place at 73 is Tzu-Yi Chang of Morgan Hill at 73. Both Doodle Yuen of Los Gatos and Elizabeth Scholtes of Alameda are T-3 at 74.

San Ramon’s Yoonhee Kim, whose won six JTNC events this season (the second most all-time), opened with a 77.

Boys First Flight

Krishan Patel and Steven Chen, both of San Jose, are tied at the top of the leaderboard after posting matching scores of 78.

Howard Shu of Saratoga and Michael Lozano of Manteca are T-3 at 81.

Girls First Flight

Milpitas resident Cynthia Zhang took the lead in round one, opening with an 81.

In second place is San Ramon’s Steffi Lin at 82. Both Sydney and Lauren Sung of Palo Alto are T-3 at 83 along with Adora Liu of Fremont.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners in Summer Series IV Championship at Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park and Chardonnay Golf Course

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (July 20, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Wednesday at the Summer Series IV Championship at Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park and Chardonnay Golf Course in Napa.

Palo Alto resident Ahmed Ali shot 7-under 137 and San Jose resident Sabrina Iqbal shot even-par 144 to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series IV Championship held Tuesday and Wednesday at par-72 Napa GC at Kennedy Park and Chardonnay GC.

Ali picked up his record-tying third win of the 2015-2016 season with a stellar performance. In Tuesday’s first round at Chardonnay GC, he’d post five birdies to go against just one double-bogey.

A day later, Ali went on a birdie binge to sew up a six stroke win over the field. In the finale, Ali rang up eight birdies to offset four bogeys. He’d wrap up his showing by posting birdies on four of his last five holes.

Thomas Hutchison of San Jose, who previously tied the record for most JTNC wins in a season (3) and was coming off a big win at the NCGA Junior Championship, was runner-up at 143. He’d open with a 70, but could only manage a 73 in the final round.

Max Holm of Walnut Creek held the first round lead after a sizzling 68 that featured five birdies and a lone bogey, but a second round 76 dropped him into third place.

Fourth place went to Santa Rosa’s Jake Eastman at 146 after a final round 76. Robert Briggs of Novato and Bradley Vu of Santa Cruz shared fifth place at 147 following rounds of 70 and 73, respectively.

In the Girls’ Championship, Iqbal grabbed the lead with a first round 75 and never gave it up, posting a final round 69 for a two-shot win over Yoonhee Kim of San Ramon.

Coming off back-to-back wins at the NCGA Junior Championship, the win was Iqbal’s third of the 2015-2016 season and record 20^th NorCal junior “major” victory. A day after posting just one birdie, the Pioneer High junior carded six birdies to go against just three bogeys.

Kim, the winner of six events this season and runner-up at the NCGA Junior after losing to Iqbal in a playoff, opened with a 77 and followed that up with a 69. She’d make a brilliant charge on the back-nine, carding birdies on her first four holes, but was unable to catch Iqbal.

Bibilani Liu of Cupertino finished third at 150 following a 71, while Caris Kim of Los Altos placed fourth at 152 after a 72. Marie Dean of Davis was fifth at 153 after a 72.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Michael Lozano of Manteca had a 76 to finish at 150, defeating runner-up Nico Maes of San Jose by five shots. Maes shot a final round 78.

Third place went to Sahil Kapur of San Jose at 156 following a 77. Four players—Jacob Aaron of Napa, Pleasanton’s Josh Maroney, Steven Chen of San Jose and Nathan Park of Dublin—all finished T-4 at 159.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Kiana Briggs of Novato followed up an opening 81 with a 70 to come in at 151, defeating co-runner-ups Natalie Vo of San Jose and Sydney Sung of Palo Alto by 10 shots.

Vo, who was awarded second place in a card-off, had a final round 74, while Sung posted a 75.

Madison Pineda of San Carlos was fourth at 163 after an 83. Katie Lynn Fong of Dublin and Sophie Thai of Los Altos finished T-5 at 165 following rounds of 79 and 81, respectively.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Summer Series V Championship, slated for July 25-26 at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno.
