CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series IV Championship at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (September 10, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series IV Championship at Haggin Oaks Golf Club.

Granite Bay resident Dylan McDermott shot 8-under 136 and Pleasant Hill resident Madelyn Gamble shot 1-under 143 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series IV Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.

McDermott got his second win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to great play both days. He’d card back-to-back rounds of 4-under 68.

In Saturday’s opener, McDermott posted four birdies with zero bogeys. A day later, he’d again go bogey-free with four birdies to defeat a group of players by three shots.

Four players—Lucas Carper of San Jose, Baron Szeto of Moraga, Rocklin’s Sam Sommerhauser and Carmel’s George McNeely—all came in at 139.

Carper and Szeto had the best rounds on Sunday of the four, posting rounds of 69 and 70, respectively. Carper earned second place in a card-off.

In the Girls’ Championship, Gamble shot a Sunday 2-under 70 to edge runner-up Marina Mata of Palo Alto by two shots.

Gamble, who also won her first event of the new season, opened with a 73 that featured a birdie and two bogeys. A day later, she’d post three birdies with just one bogey.

Mata, who had rounds of 72-73, had a chance to catch Gamble but bogeyed both the 15th and 18th on Sunday.

Four players—Melinda Yuan of San Ramon, Yena and Yevon jang of Roseville and Jacqueline Lucena of Chico—all finished T-3 at 146. Yena Jang earned third place in a card-off.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship,  Aditya Das of Fremont had a second round 73 to come in at 144, defeating runner-up Julian Monas of Cameron Park by two shots.

Giuliano Kaminski of Los Gatos and Jacob Van Roekel of El Dorado Hills were T-3 at 147, while Leland Tsai of Castro Valley and Matthew Almajano of Fremont were T-5 at 158.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Sophia Bardunias of San Ramon shot a second round 75 to come in at 149, defeating runner-up Malia Loo of Millbrae by a shot.

Third place went to Camille Thai of Los Altos at 151. Ryan Flynn of Truckee was fourth at 155, with Alaythia Hinds fifth at 156.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Fall Series V Championship, to be held Sept. 8-9 at Ridge Creek GC in Dinuba.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series III Championship at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (September 4, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series III Championship at San Juan Oaks Golf Club.

San Jose resident Jack Steck shot 1-under 143 and Pleasanton resident Jasmine Chen shot 1-over 145 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series III Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 San Juan Oaks Golf Club.

Steck got his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to a solid Sunday finish. He’d play his final 11 holes at 4-under with five birdies and just one bogey to edge runner-up Connor Lien of Cupertino by two shots.

On Saturday, Steck had two birdies en route to a 73. Lien made birdie on the 11th to tie Steck, but slipped with a bogey on the closing 18th to come in at 1-over 145.

Jackson Koivun of San Jose was third at 146 after a 73. He’d birdie the 15th to flirt with the lead, but later double-bogeyed the 18th.

Steven Chen of San Jose and Akira Isayama of Palo Alto finished T-4 at 147 after matching rounds of 75.

In the Girls’ Championship, Chen was solid in both rounds to defeat runner-up Selena Tang of Fremont by three strokes. Chen posted five birdies overall, including two on Sunday on her front-nine that paved the way to victory.

Tang was in the mix but finished with a back-nine 40 to land in second place.

Danielle Suh of San Ramon, who was aiming for her third straight win, came in third at 151 after a 75.

Camille Chung of San Francisco was fourth at 152, while Divya Tadmeti was fifth at 154.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship,  Jonathan Le of San Jose shot a final round 73 to come in at 144, defeating runner-up Luke Montoya of Arroyo Grande by seven shots.

Third place went to Bowen Yin of Fremont at 153. Matthew Almajano of Fremont was fourth at 154 and Aditya Das of Fremont was fifth at 156.

Ericka Gosti of Fremont was third at 163. Camille Thai of San Jose and Kalea Hall of Salinas were T-5 at 166.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 27, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series II Championship at Rancho Murieta Country Club.

Granite Bay resident Dylan McDermott shot 2-under 142 and San Ramon resident Danielle Suh shot 1-over 145 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series II Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Rancho Murieta Country Club.

McDermott notched his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to a solid 1-under 35 Sunday back-nine. Trying to hold off both Sam Sommerhauser and Zachary McKay, McDermott had a birdie on the 14th and eight pars.

McDermott was also steady on Saturday, posting a 69 with six birdies. Sommerhauser, of Rocklin, had back-to-back rounds of 72. McKay shot 70-74.

Sommerhauser earned third place following a card-off (lower back-nine score).  Baron Szeto of Moraga was fourth at 145 after a 73, while Mitchell Hoey was fifth at 147 following a 69.

In the Girls’ Championship, Suh got her second straight win of the 2018-2019 season via solid back-to-back rounds of 72-73. Suh, who’d defeat the field by nine shots, posted five birdies and 26 pars over her two rounds.

Maddie Jun of Mountain View, Sammy Lee of San Ramon and Borina Sutikto of Fremont finished tied for second at 154 after all three finished with rounds of 76. Jun won second place in a card-off, with Sutikto earning third in a card-off.

Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas and Kiana Briggs of Novato finished T-5 at 155 after rounds of 77 and 79, respectively.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Giuliano Kaminski of Los Gatos shot a final round 77 to come in at 152, defeating runner-up Jonathan Le of San Jose by two shots.

Alexander Pham of San Jose was third at 156, while Will Phelan of Rocklin took fourth at 158. Leland Tsai of Castro Valley was fifth at 153.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Belinda Sutikto of Fremont shot a final round 79 to come in at 163, defeating runner-up Camille Thai of Los Altos by four.

Sophia Bardunias of San Ramon was third at 171, while Joyce Zhang of Milpitas was fourth at 174. Erika Gosh of Fremont took fifth at 179.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 20, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series I Championship at Cypress Lakes Golf Course.

Reno resident Connor Motherway shot 3-under 141 and San Ramon resident Danielle Suh shot 4-under 140 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Cypress Lakes Golf Course.

Motherway bagged the first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to a clutch birdie on the par-4, 451 yard 18th hole. He’d defeat co-runners-up Sam Sommerhauser of Rocklin and Woojin Gallo of Walnut Creek by a stroke.

Overall, Motherway was consistent, posting seven birdies and 25 pars to go against just four bogeys.

Sommerhauser also closed with a birdie on the 18th to get within one. He’d post rounds of 70-72. Gallo, who led after a first round 67, slipped back with a 75. In a card-off, Sommerhauser would earn second place.

Paramdeep Sodhi of Folsom and Griffin Long of Davis finished T-4 at 143 after rounds of 71 and 73, respectively.

In the Girls’ Championship, Suh got the first win of the 2018-2019 season via a runaway. She’d card back-to-back rounds of 70 to defeat the field by eight shots.

Over her two rounds, Suh posted seven birdies and 27 pars to go against just one bogey and a double-bogey.

Alexandria Christeson of Livermore was second at 148. Third place was a tie between Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas and Yena Jang of Roseville at 150.  Divva Tadmeti of Palo Alto finished fifth at 152.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Jonathan Le of San Jose shot a final round 76 to come in at 148 to defeat runner-up Andre Chung of San Francisco by six strokes.

Colton Hunt of El Dorado Hills and Howard Shu of Saratoga finished T-3 at 155, while Jeremy Yun of Palo Alto and Dublin’s Nathan Park were T-5 at 159.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Ellexis Mingming of Walnut Creek shot a final round 78 to come in at 155, defeating runner-up Kalea Hall of Salinas by three shots.

Joyce Zhang of Milpitas was third at 161, Kati Wilkes of Danville was fourth at 162 and Sophia Bardunias of San Ramon was fifth at 165.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Tour Championship Crowns Champions at Poppy Hills GC

Charles Alliston of Poppy Hills Club shot 3-over 145 and defeated Scout McNealy in a sudden-death playoff  to win the Boys’ Championship and Kaleiya Romero of YOC Santa Teresa shot 4-over 146 to win the Girls’ Championship title at the annual Junior Tour of Northern California Tour Championship at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course.

 

Alliston, a senior at nearby Stevenson School, went wire-to-wire. He’d follow up an opening round 71 with a 74 and later beat McNealy with a par on the first playoff hole (par-4 10th). McNealy, playing out of Sharon Heights G&CC, made a second round charge with a solid 69.

“My ball striking was really good the first 27 holes. Then on the last nine I started feeling the pressure,” Alliston said. “After a few bad swings, I just stepped back a bit. I knew I had the shots in my bag to win it. I just had to execute.”

Third place went to Jason Chen of YOC South Bay at 146 after a 76. Fourth place went to Sam Sommerhauser at 147.

Former Cupertino resident Ethan Chung shot a final round 74 to come in at 149 for a 9th place finish. By virtue of his finish, Chung claimed 2017-2018 JTNC Boys’ Player of the Year honors. He’d beat out Ryan Grauman by a mere two points to win.

Romero, 16, followed up an opening round 70 with a 76. In shooting the 70, she’d hit 15 greens in regulation. Overall, Romero carded six birdies over the two rounds.

“My putting was good,” Romero said. “I also hit my irons well. I was putting my approaches most of the time to within 15 feet of the flagstick.”

Finishing as runner-up at 150 after a 77 was Pleasant Hill resident Madelyn Gamble. Gamble made it to match play at the recent U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Poppy Hills.

Third place went to Kristine Tran of YOC Santa Teresa at 151. Tran would win a card-off over fourth place finisher Danielle Suh of Castlewood CC, who also came in at 151. Andrea Gomez of YOC South Bay claimed fifth place at 152.

 

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, three players—Jonathan Le of YOC Santa Teresa, Torin Martin of YOC Alameda and Richmond CC member Niall Shiels Donegan–all finished with matching scores of 13-over 155. L, who had rounds of 77-78, won the ensuing playoff to claim first place.

Fourth place went to Luke Montoya of Preserve GC at 159 after an 81. Andrew Doll of Olympic Club was fifth at 161 following an 82.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Lindsey Huang of YOC Mariner’s Point shot a final round 82 to come in at 161, defeating runner-up Hannah Sangha of YOC Mariner’s Point by two shots. Sangha had rounds of 78-85.

Third place went to Belinda Sutikto of YOC East Palo Alto at 165. Fourth place went to Nathalie Benrey of YOC South Bay at 172, with YOC Metropolitan GL member Kaydee Tu taking fifth at 174.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Fall Series I, August 18-19 at Cypress Lakes GC. The event will kick off the 2018-2019 season.

Charles Alliston of Poppy Hills Club and Kaleiya Romero took the first round lead in the Boys’ and Girls’ Championship, respectively, as the annual JTNC Tour Championship got underway Monday at par-71 Poppy Hills.

Alliston carded two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 13th, but he’d also have two bogeys and a double-bogey for a 71. He’ll enter Tuesday’s final round holding a one shot lead over Jason Chen of Youth on Course South Bay. Chen carded three birdies and four bogeys.

Three players–Bradley Vu, Nico Maes and Sam Sommerhauser–are tied for third at 73, just two shots off the lead.

Ethan Chung of YOC Santa Teresa is T-7 at 75. Chung just needs to finish in the Top-10 to earn Boys’ Player of the Year honors. He came into the championship with a total of 1,915 points, just 78 points behind leader Ryan Grauman. Grauman is not competing in the championship.

Romero carded five birdies and four bogeys, good enough to take a two-shot lead over the field. Tied for second place at 72 are Samira Pal of YOC Santa Teresa and Kristine Tran of YOC Santa Teresa.

Both Madelyn Gamble, who played in the recent U.S. Girls’ Junior at Poppy Hills, and Danielle Suh are tied for fourth at 73.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Niall Shiels Donegan of Richmond CC took the lead with a 74. In second place at 77 is Jonathan Le of YOC Santa Teresa.

Over in the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Belinda Sutikto of YOC East Palo Alto leads at 77. Hannah Sangha of YOC Mariner’s Point is just a stroke back after a 78.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (July 24, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Monday at the Summer Series IV Championship at Spring Creek Golf and Country Club.

Menlo Park resident Bill Kirkpatrick shot 1-over 143 and San Ramon resident Danielle Suh shot 3-over 145 to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series IV Championship held Sunday and Monday at par-71 Spring Creek Golf and Country Club.

Kirkpatrick notched his first win of the 2017-2018 season thanks to steady play each day. He’d open with a 2-over 73 and followed that up with an even better 70  to defeat runner-up Ryan Grauman of Alamo by a shot.

Over his two rounds, Kirkpatrick would card nine birdies. He’d be clutch on the final back-nine, carding a 32 with a birdie on the 17th to hold on for the victory.

Grauman had a second round 70 and also shot 32 on the back-nine thanks in part to an eagle on the 14th, but it wasn’t enough to catch Kirkpatrick.

Third place went to Nathan Wang of Fremon t at 145, while Chase Hascup of Vacaville and Christopher Giardina of Merced shared fourth place at 146.

In the Girls Championship, Suh was solid, carding rounds of 72-73 to defeat co-runners-up Mika Jin of Fremont and Yewon Jang of Roseville by four.

It was Suh’s first win of the season after finishing as runner-up five times. She’d card six birdies over her two rounds.

Jin would earn second place following a card-off. She was in contention after a first round 71 but slipped to a 78. Jang went the other way, going 78-71.

Fourth place went to Amy Xue of San Ramon at 150. Ashley Pan of Moraga was fifth at 151.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Alexander Suen of Dublin shot a final round 76 to come in at 147 and defeat runner-up Camdon Indelicato of Manteca by five shots. Indelicato had a final round 73.

Third place went to Denton Indelicato of Manteca at 154. Shreyes Narayanan of Cupertino was fourth at 157, with Jonathan Le and Calvin Kong, both of San Jose, sharing fifth place at 158.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Nicole Iniakov of Prunedale shot a final round 78 to come in at 161 and defeat runner-up Belinda Sutikto of Fremont by a shot. Sutikto had a final round 79.

Third place went to Varsha Ramachandran of Fremont at 165. Fourth place went to Hannah Sangha of San Mateo at 166, with fifth place going to Camille Thai of Los Altos at 167.

Sacramento resident Jacob Westberg shot 3-over 147 and Rocklin resident Kaylyn Noh shot 12-over 156 to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series III Championship held Sunday and Monday at par-72 El Macero Country Club.

Westberg notched his first win of the 2017-2018 season thanks to stellar play each day. He’d open with a 1-over 73 and followed that up with a 74 to defeat co-runners-up Paramdeep Sodhi of Folsom and Justin Hopkins of Danville by two strokes.

Over his two rounds, Westberg would card seven birdies. He’d cap the win with a closing birdie on the 18th.

Sodhi and Hopkins had final rounds of 74 and 72, respectively. Sodhi earned second place follow a card-off (lower score back-nine).

Fourth place went to Jared Tungol of Rocklin at 150. Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay and Jack Deaner of Carmichael shared fifth place at 151.

In the Girls Championship, Noh won by two shots over runner-up Nthenya Maithya thanks to a pair of 78’s. In her two rounds, Noh would post four birdies.

Maithya, of Modesto, came in at 158 after a second round bounce-back 74. Third place went to Alyssa Yee of Davis at 162.

Kimberly Burch of Dublin and Ashley Knepshield of Carmichael finished T-4 at 163.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Kibum Kim of Pleasanton had a final round 74 to come in at 152 and defeat runner-up David Studer of Davis by three shots.

Alexander Suen of Dublin and Andre Chung of San Francisco finished T-3 at 156. Suen won the card-off. Danton Indelicato of Manteca was fifth at 159.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Harper Clementz of San Francisco shot a final round 85 to come in at 163 and defeat co-runners-up Jessie Burch of Dublin and Amelia Greenlee of Roseville by three shots. Burch earned second place in a card-off.

Sidney Hung of Alameda and Belinda Sutikto of Fremont were T-4 at 167.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Summer Series IV Championship, to be held July 22-23 at Spring Creek GC.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Summer Series I Championship at Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 11, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Summer Series I Championship at Reserve at Spanos Park.

Youth on Course Sacramento member Matthew Sutherland shot 2-under 142 and E-Club East Bay member Yealimi Noh shot 4-under 140 to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Reserve at Spanos Park.

Chen captured his first title of the season thanks to a sensational second round 6-under 66 that featured a hole-out eagle on the par-4 1st, six birdies and just two bogeys. Sutherland, who defeated the field by six shots, carded a 33 on each of his nines. In Saturday’s first round, he posted a 76. Pang won second place in a card-off.

Andrew Bagasbas of Castlewood CC and Darren Pang of E-Club East Bay both finished T-2 at 148 after carding identical rounds of 76-72.

Five players—Curtis DaSilva of YOC Monterey, Alexander Barclay of YOC East Bay, Nathan Wang of YOC Fremont, Alexander Iniakov of YOC AT&T and Sam Sommerhauser of Catta Verdera CC—all finished T-4 at 151.

In the Girls Championship, Noh grabbed her third win of the season with a dominating performance. Noh would post back-to-back rounds of 70 to defeat the field by 15 strokes.

A winner of two Fall events, Noh overall posted 11 birdies to go against five bogeys and a double-bogey. The win was Noh’s 18th NorCal junior major, tying her with Casie Cathrea for second all-time behind leader Sabrina Iqbal.

Anitra Khoth of Hampas Lua GC was second at 155, while Sammy Lee of E-Club East Bay was third at 156.

Three players—Kristine Tran of YOC Santa Teresa, Steffi Lin of YOC East Bay and Charlotte Ryoo of YOC East Bay—were T-4 at 157.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Matthew Lee of YOC East Bay shot a final round 76 to come in at 155, defeating runner-up Aidtya Das of YOC Fremont by five.

Chanhee Ryu of YOC Pleasanton, Jonathan Le of YOC Santa Teresa and Matthew Almajano of YOC East Bay, finished third through fifth, respectively.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Kaylan Tu of YOC Metropolitan shot a final round 76 to come in at 155 and defeat Emily Luo of YOC Pleasanton by three.

Nicole Iniakov of YOC AT&T, Nikki Chindavong of YOC North Bay and Tina Xu of nccga finished third through fifth, respectively.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Summer Series II Championship, to be held June 13-14 at Poppy Ridge GC in Livermore.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series VII Championship at Rooster Run Golf Course in Petaluma

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 14, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series VII Championship at Rooster Run Golf Club in Petaluma.

San Jose resident Gregory Lee shot 4-under 140 and San Ramon resident Jacqueline Ha shot even-par 144 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Rooster Run GC.

Lee picked up his first win of the 2017-2018 season thanks to solid play both days. He’d card back-to-back rounds of 70 to defeat the field by three strokes.

Overall, Lee posted nine birdies to go against just five bogeys. He’d card three birdies on the back-nine on Sunday to seal the victory.

Four players—Lucas Briar of Alamo, Ethan Chung of Cupertino, Moses Greene of Hayward and San Jose’s Jackson Koivun—all finished T-2 at 143.

Briar, who had rounds of 71-72, was second following a card-off (low back-nine score). Chung, the points leader, was third with rounds of 73-70.

In the Girls Championship, Ha finally got her time at the top, shooting solid rounds of 73-71 to beat the field by three shots. Earlier this season, Ha had two runner-up finishes.

Over the weekend, Ha posted six birdies to go against six bogeys.

Danielle Suh of San Ramon was second at 147, while Hannah Harrison of Granite Bay and Kiran Sangha of San Mateo shared third place at 148. Harrison earned third place in a card-off.

Jasmine Chen of Pleasanton and Jaclyn LaHa of Pleasanton shared fifth place at 149.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Aditya Das of Fremont shot a final round 72 to come in at 147, defeating co-runners-up Leonardo Veira and Chanhee Ryu by four strokes. Ryu earned second place via a card-off.

Nathan Park of Dublin and Al Esquera of Alameda shared fourth place at 153.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Lauren Sung of Palo Alto shot a final round 74 to finish at 151, defeating runner-up Jessie Burch of Dublin by one.

Third place went to Crystal Yi of Vacaville (153), while Sophia Bardunias of San Ramon was fourth at 155. Celine Ho of San Jose and Hannah Sangha of San Mateo shared fifth place at 155.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series VI First Flight Championship at Monarch Bay Golf Course in San Leandro

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 21, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series VI Championship at Monarch Bay Golf Course in San Leandro.

Youth on Course East Bay member Matthew Almajano shot 4-over 76 and YOC Easy Bay member Kati Wilkes shot 7-over 149 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VI Championship held Sunday at par-71 Monarch Bay GC.

Almajano birdied the par-4 14th hole and finished with four straight pars to hold off runner-up Nathan Park of YOC East Bay by a stroke. Park was tied for the lead but bogeyed the 17th.

Calton Kang of YOC Santa Teresa was also in the hunt but bogeyed three of his final four holes.

Three players–Akbar Hasam and Ashwath Ekambaram of YOC East Bay and Ryan Zhong of Palo Alto Hills–finished T-4 at 79.

Wilkes finished her round with three straight clutch pars to hold off runner-up Malia Loo of YOC South Bay by a shot. Loo was stung by a double-bogey on the 17th.

Brenna Preap of YOC East Bay was third at 81. Lauren Sung of YOC Santa Teresa and Darla May Dela Torre of YOC East Bay were T-4 at 82.
