CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners in Summer Series III Championship at Coyote Creek Golf Course in San Jose.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 22, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Tuesday at the Summer Series III Championship at Coyote Creek Golf Course in San Jose.

Los Gatos resident Nicholas Mok shot even 144 and San Ramon resident Yoonhee Kim shot 3-under 141 to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series III Championship held Monday and Tuesday at par-72 Coyote Creek on the Valley Course.

Mok picked up his first win of the 2015-2016 season thanks to his 75 and stellar final round of 69. On Monday he had three birdies, but on Tuesday he posted five birdies with an eagle on his final hole. Hutchison carded four birdies on his final round with only two bogeys and finishing just one behind Mok.

Four players—Ahmed Ali of Palo Alto, Daniel Kim of San Jose, Colt McNealy of Portola Valley and Danville’s Jared Khoo—all finished T-3 at 148. A card-off was used to decide the third place finisher, McNealy won the card shooting a 35 on his last nine holes.

Shooting one of the lowest rounds in girls JTNC history, Yoonhee Kim won by nine strokes. On Tuesday Kim followed the front nine even par with five birdies and an eagle. Kim carded a 28 on her second nine and ended up shooting a stellar 65.

Iqbal, the two-time defending JTNC Girls’ Player of the Year, had opened with a leading 74 on Monday. A day later, she’d slip back to a 76 that featured four birdies. In her fourth event of the year, Bibilani Liu shot a steady 79 each day with some sprinkled in birdies to secure her third place finish.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Allen Zhang of San Jose had rounds of 71-79 to come in at 150 and win by five strokes.

Jacob Turley was awarded second place following a card-off after shooting a 37 on his last nine holes. Maximilian Ramirez would be awarded third place in the card-off and shooting a 38 on his last nine.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Lauren Shew of San Francisco had rounds of 80-75 to finish at 155 and win by two strokes.

Three players—Kristina Oh of San Jose, Annika Cruz of Milpitas, and Pleasanton’s Jasmine Chen—all finished T-2 at 157. A card-off was used to decide second place. Cruz was awarded second place, and Oh third place.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is qualifying for the Ellie Mae Classic, slated for June 28 at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 17, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Thursday at the Summer Series II Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.

San Ramon resident Brendan Hy shot 3-over 147 and Concord resident Yealimi Noh shot 8-over 152 to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series II Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-36 Poppy Ridge Golf Course. The duo both earned automatic spots into this year’s PGA Junior Championship, slated for Aug. 9-12 at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rhode Island.

Hy picked up his first win of the 2015-2016 season in dramatic fashion, making birdie on the 18th in the final round for a round of even-par 72. Just a hole earlier on the 17th, he’d suffered a crucial bogey. The birdie on 18 gave him a one-shot victory over both Jeremy Villafuerte of Newark and San Ramon’s Isaiah Choi.

Hy had been close to winning before. At both the Fall Series VI and Spring Series VII Championships, he placed second.

Villafuerte, who was coming off a 77 in Wednesday’s wind-swept first round, carded a birdie on No.12 to get to a total of 4-over but could only manage pars on his final six holes.

Choi had a chance to catch Hy but stumbled with bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes for a second round 72. In a card-off, Villafuerte was awarded second place, with Choi placing third.

Three players—Aditya Kumar of Fremont, Avi Khemani of Los Altos Hills and Pleasanton’s John Fracisco—tied for fourth at 149.

In the Girls’ Championship, Noh was the epitome of steady, carding 12 straight pars in the final round for a 73 and one shot win over Danville’s Ty Akabane and Brooke Riley of Manteca.

For Noh, the win was her ninth career JTNC title, moving her to third place on the Girls’ all-time career win list. The victory was also Noh’s third of the 2015-2016, tying her with Casie Cathrea for third place three) for most wins in a season.

Akabane, who captured the Spring Series VII Championship crown, had a chance to tie Noh but carded a bogey on the 15th for a 74 and two-day total of 153. Also coming in at 153 was Riley. Winner of the Summer Series I Championship, Riley had birdied the 14th to take the lead but later had a bogey on the 16th and a double-bogey on the 17th for a 76.

In a card-off, Akabane was awarded second place, with Riley placing third.

Belinda Hu and Yoonhee Kim of San Ramon both finished T-4 at 154 after final rounds of 73 and 76, respectively.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Tyson Rutledge of Clovis had rounds of 75-72 to finish at 147, claiming a three shot win over Alamo’s Cameron Keith.

Rutledge was solid in the finale, carding an eagle and birdie to go against three bogeys.

Keith had rounds of 76-74. Nicholas Dolley of El Dorado Hills and Nathan Wang of Fremont both tied for third at 151 after final rounds of 72 and 74, respectively.

Allen Zhang and Krishan Patel of San Jose finished T-5 at 159 following final rounds of 76 and 79, respectively.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Palo Alto’s Katherine Sung had a final round 74 to come in at 156 for a seven-shot win. Both Jasmine Chen of Pleasanton and Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas finished tied for second at 163 after final rounds of 77 and 78, respectively.

In a card-off, Zhang was awarded was second place with Chen placing third.

Madison Starke of Walnut Creek was fourth at 166, with Liam Sklar of Los Gatos taking fifth at 167.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Summer Series III Championship, slated for June 20-21 at Coyote Creek Golf Course in San Jose.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 13, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Summer Series I Championship at Elkhorn Golf Club and Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.

Alamo resident Ryan Grauman shot 4-under 139 and Manteca resident Brooke Riley shot 5-over 148 to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-71 Elkhorn GC and par-72 Reserve at Spanos Park.

Grauman picked up his third win of the 2015-2016 season thanks to a steady first round 73 and a stellar final round 66.  In winning for the third time in the season, Grauman matched the JTNC Boys’ record for most wins in a season. The record is now held by four players, and was recently tied by San Jose’s Thomas Hutchison.

A day after carding a wild 73 featuring an eagle and three birdies but also three bogeys and a pair of double-bogeys, Grauman found his groove. On Sunday at Reserve at Spanos Park, he’d open with a bogey but then ran off seven birdies and 10 pars to defeat runner-up Trey Davis of Olivehurst by a stroke. The clincher for Grauman was a birdie on the 17th.

Davis, who grabbed the first round lead with a 70 at Elkhorn GC, had five birdies in Sunday’s final round. He’d also be stung by a bogey and double-bogey, however which led to another round of 70 and two-day total of 140.

Third place went to Danville’s Mackade Mangels at 143 following a final round 69. Mangels had the shot of the weekend, acing the par-3 13th hole at Elkhorn GC on Saturday.

Brian Ma of Milpitas was fourth at 145 after a 72, while Aditya Kumar of Fremont and Daniel Kim of San Jose shared fifth place at 146 following rounds of 72.

In the Girls’ Championship, Riley notched her first win of the 2015-2016 season by going wire-to-wire.

In Saturday’s first round at Elkhorn GC, Riley had a shaky 76 that featured three birdies and eight bogeys. A day later, Riley played her first three holes at 2-over after making double-bogey on No.3. She’d bounce back, however, by playing her final 15 holes at 1-under par for a 72.

San Ramon’s Belinda Hu, who opened with a 79, shot a second round 71 to claim second place at 150. Danville’s Ty Akabane, who also had a first round 79, shot 73 to place third at 152.

Fourth place went to San Ramon’s Danielle Suh at 153 after a 76. Yoonhee Kim of San Ramon and Alamo’s Annika Borrelli tied for fifth at 154 after final rounds of 77.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Caleb Barstad of Carmel Valley shot rounds of 73-72 to finish at 145 and claim a 10 stroke victory.

Second place went to Folsom’s Christian Castillo at 155 after a 74. Nathan Wang of Fremont was third at 156 following a 78.

Jason Deaver of Redding took fourth at 160 after an 81 and Shreyvas Narayanan was fifth at 161 following an 82.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Selena Tang of Fremont made par on the 18th hole to shoot 75 and finish at 151, claiming a one-shot victory over runner-ups Adora JiaYi Wen of Dublin and Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas. Wen had a chance to force a playoff with Tang but bogeyed the 18th to finish with a 74 and two-day total of 152. Zhang also had a shot at forcing extra holes but also bogeyed the 18th for a 76 and 152.

In a card-off, Zhang was awarded second place. Fourth place went to Pleasanton’s Rachel Shaw at 156 after an 87. Erica Lam of San Jose was fifth at 158 following an 80. In Saturday’s opening round, Shaw had posted a sensational 69 that included five birdies and two pars.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 31, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series VII Championship at Shadow Lakes Golf Club and Deer Ridge Golf Club in Brentwood.

Fremont resident Vijay Srinivasan shot 7-under 135 and Danville resident Ty Akabane shot 6-under 136 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-70 Shadow Lakes and par-71 Deer Ridge.

Srinivasan picked up his first win of the 2015-2016 season thanks to a steady first round 70 and a stellar final round 65.  The 65 was also the fourth lowest 18-hole score in JTNC history.

A day after carding a solid 70 featuring four birdies and three bogeys, Srinivasan caught fire. On Sunday at Deer Ridge, he’d post seven birdies with just one bogey to secure a two-shot win over runner-up Brendan Hy of San Ramon. On his front-nine, Srinivasan shot a 32.

Hy, who was coming off a first round 71, did his best to try and keep up. He’d post a second round 66 with six birdies to go against just one bogey.

Also shooting a Sunday 66 was San Carlos’ Finigan Tilly, who moved into a tie for third with Wallace Lin of Los Gatos at 138. Lin had back-to-back rounds of 69.

Three players—Bryson Zorich of Rocklin, Hayden Hui of Dublin and San Ramon’s Ashkaan Hakim—all finished T-5 at 139. Zorich also had a 65, while Hui had a 66 and Hakim shot 67. Zorich, who shot a front-nine 30, had an eagle and eight birdies but also suffered four bogeys.

In the Girls’ Championship, it was Akabane who went low. Playing at Deer Ridge, Akabane had a second round 66 to come from behind and defeat runner-up Sabrina Iqbal of San Jose by three strokes.

Akabane also had a front-nine 30, thanks to an eagle on the par-5 9th and four birdies. Iqbal, the two-time defending JTNC Girls’ Player of the Year, had opened with a leading 68 on Saturday. A day later, she’d slip back to a 71 that featured two birdies and two bogeys.

Finishing in a tie for third at 143 were Vallejo’s Maria Davis and Samantha Gong of San Francisco following final rounds of 70 and 71, respectively. Davis was awarded third place in a card-off.

Fifth place went to Cupertino’s Bibilani Liu at 146 after a 71.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Dean Cavanna of San Anselmo had rounds of 70-72 to come in at 142 and win by seven strokes.

Four players—Angelo Marcon of San Francisco (73), Aidan Tran of Fresno (74), Austin Tran of Fresno (76) and Baron Szeto of Moraga (72)—finished tied for second at 149.

Marcon was awarded second place following a card-off. Aidan Tran would be awarded third place in the card-off.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Jordan Briggs of Livermore had rounds of 77-75 to finish at 152 and edge runner-up Tiffany Kwok of Pleasanton by a stroke.

Kwok shot 75-78. Third place finisher Adora JiaYi Wen of San Jose finished at 154 following a 76. Charlotte Ryoo of Pleasanton and Varnika Achanta of San Jose finished T-4 at 156 after rounds of 80 and 81, respectively.

The event concluded the 2016 Spring Series. Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Summer Series I, slated for June 11-12 at Reserve at Spanos Park and Elkhorn GC in Stockton.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 16, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series VI Championship at Paso Robles Golf Club in Paso Robles.

San Jose resident Thomas Hutchison shot 8-under 134 and Redwood Shores resident Lucy Li shot 1-under 141 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VI Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Paso Robles Golf Club.

Hutchison picked up his third win of the 2015-2016 season thanks to a steady first round 70 and a stellar final round 64. With the victory, Hutchison tied the JTNC Boys’ record for most wins in a season. The 64 was also the third lowest 18-hole score in JTNC history.

A day after carding an up-and-down 70, Hutchison was flawless, posting seven birdies with zero bogeys to win by five strokes. He’d make his charge on the front-nine, where he shot a 30.

On Saturday, Hutchison also had seven birdies, but he’d also card four bogeys and a double-bogey.

Also going low in the second round was runner-up Ethan Chung of Cupertino. Chung followed up an opening 73 with a fantastic 66 that included an eagle on the par-4 11th, four birdies and just one bogey.

Finishing tied for third at 143 were three players—Bradley Vu of Santa Cruz (70), George McNeely of Carmel (70) and Brian Ma of Milpitas (72). In a testament to fortitude, Wanxi Sun carded a 75 on Sunday despite posting an 11 on the par-5 10th.

In the Girls’ Championship, 2014 U.S. Women’s Open darling Lucy Li made the best of a rare JTNC appearance.

Li, the only girl to break 70 in the first round, took the lead from the onset with a solid 69 that featured three birdies and a bogey. A day later she’d post a 72 with two bogeys and birdie to defeat runner-up Courtney Vogel of Pacific Grove by seven shots.

Vogel had back-to-back rounds of 74 to come in at 148. Finishing in a tie for third place at 151 were San Mateo’s Amanjoty Sangha (76) and Jackie Caniete of Antioch (78).

Three players—Kiran Sangha of San Mateo (72), Jacqueline Ngo of Friant (76) and Sabrina Iqbal of San Jose (80)—all finished T-5 at 152.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Kevin Sze of Saratoga had a final round 72 to come in at 145 and eke out a one-shot win over runner-up Aidan Tran of Fresno. Sze clinched the win with a clutch birdie on the 18th.

Tran also had a final round 72. Placing third at 150 after a final round 75 was San Jose’s Jackson Koivun. Baron Seeto of Moraga and Andrew Burdick of Arroyo Grande finished T-4 at 151 following final rounds of 75 and 80, respectively.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Kiana Briggs of Novato had a final round 78 to come in at 153 and defeat runner-up Selena Tang of Fremont by seven shots. Tang shot a final round 77.

Third place went to San Jose’s Irene Jun at 161 after an 80. Charlotte Kyoo of Pleasanton was fourth at 164 after an 80 and Jaclyn LaHa of Pleasanton was fifth at 165 following an 82.

The 2016 Spring Series continues with the Spring Series VII Championship, to be held May 28-29 at Deer Ridge Golf Club and Shadow Lakes Golf Club in Brentwood.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 2, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series V Championship at Darkhorse Golf Club in Auburn.

San Jose resident Thomas Hutchison shot 4-under 140 and San Jose resident Sabrina Iqbal shot 2-under 142 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series V Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Darkhorse Golf Club.

Hutchison picked up his second win of the 2015-2016 season thanks to a solid first round 72 and a stellar final round 68.

In Sunday’s finale, Hutchison posted six birdies to go against just two bogeys. He’d make his charge when it counted too, getting five of his birdies after making the turn for a back-nine 32.

On Saturday, Hutchison posted five birdies, but he’d also have three bogeys and a double-bogey.

Making a huge push towards the top was 2014 JTNC Player of the Year Joshua McCarthy. Coming off a first round 76, McCarthy was a birdie machine on Sunday.  The Danville resident had seven birdies and just one bogey for a 66 that moved him into second place alone at 142.

Finishing in a tie for third at 144 were Ryan Grauman of Alamo and Matt Heitel of Redwood City after final rounds of 71 and 72, respectively. Grauman was awarded third in a card-off. Brian Ma of Milpitas took fifth place at 146 after a final round 69.

In the Girls’ Championship, Iqbal found herself back on the top of the standings. The two-time defending JTNC Girls’ Player of the Year had back-to-back rounds of 71 to defeat runner-up Emilee Hoffman of Folsom by two shots.

The win was also Iqbal’s second of the season, and her first since the Fall Series IX Championship last October. Iqbal, who had six birdies to go against two bogeys and a double-bogey over her 36 holes, won the San Francisco City Women’s Championship in March.

Hoffman, who was playing in her final JTNC event, had a fate similar to McCarthy. A day after carding a 76, Hoffman put up a 68 to move into second place alone at 144. The 68 included six birdies and just one mistake—a double-bogey on the par-4 8th.

Third place went to Concord’s Yealimi Noh at 147 following a final round 71. Emma Sand of El Dorado Hills was fourth at 155 after a 79, while San Ramon’s Yoonhee Kim (79) was fifth at 156. Kim entered the event leading in the race for 2016 Girls’ Player of the Year honors.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay and Matthew Amann of El Dorado finished regulation tied at the top at 155. McDermott would take the title with a birdie on the second of a sudden-death playoff.

Third place went to San Jose’s Krishan Patel at 156, while Bailey Flickinger of San Miguel was fourth at 157. Carson Kalbfleisch of Geyserville was fifth at 161.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Folsom’s Meghan Paracuelles took the title by a shot at 160 after shooting a final round 79.

Paracuelles, who was helped by three birdies on Sunday, held off Carmichael’s Ashley Knepshield (77) and San Ramon’s Steffi Lin (78) , who both came in at 161. Lin was awarded second place in a card-off.

Fourth place went to Caleigh Clark of El Dorado Hills at 167, with fifth place going to Fremont’s Selena Tang (168).

The 2016 Spring Series continues with the Spring Series VI Championship, to be held May 14-15 at Paso Robles Golf Course in Paso Robles.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners in Spring Series II Championship at Windsor Golf Club

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 25, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series IV Championship at Rooster Run Golf Club and Adobe Creek Golf Club in Petaluma.

Palo Alto resident Ahmed Ali shot 2-under 142 and San Ramon resident Yoonhee Kim shot 5-over 149 and defeated Pleasanton resident Xinying Wang in a playoff to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series IV Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Rooster Run GC and Adobe Creek GC.

Ali picked up his second win of the 2015-2016 season by being the only player to break par both rounds. In Saturday’s first round, Ali took the lead after posting a 71 at Adobe Creek that featured four birdies and three birdies.

A day later, Ali was simply steady. He’d card two birdies and a bogey on his front-nine, closing his round with nine straight pars for a second straight 71. A member at the Olympic Club, Ali dedicated the win to his grandmother, who recently passed away.

Taking second place at 146 was Kyle Wilkinson of San Francisco after a second round 74.

Both San Ramon’s Ashkaan Hakim and Trey Davis of Olivehurst finished T-3 at 148 after final rounds of 73 and 76, respectively. Brian Ma of Milpitas and John Heckel Jr. of San Jose placed T-5 at 150 following final rounds of 71 and 74, respectively.

In the Girls’ Championship, Kim picked up her fifth win of the 2015-2016 season after defeating Wang on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.

The two were knotted up all weekend long. On Saturday at Adobe Creek, Kim and Wang each posted opening scores of even-par 72. Kim had two birdies and two bogeys while Wang had three birdies and three bogeys.

On Sunday at Rooster Run, both carded 77. Kim had five bogeys, while Wang had a wild ride, posting three birdies to go against four bogeys and two double-bogeys. Hurting Wang the most was a crucial double-bogey on the par-4 17th.

San Mateo resident Kiran Sangha and Katherine Zhu of San Jose were also in the mix early after carding rounds of 74 and 73, respectively, in the first round. On Sunday, Sangha shot 76 while Zhu had 77, leaving the two tied for third at 150.

Belinda Hu of San Ramon finished fifth at 152 after a final round 75.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Evan Cuenco took the title after shooting the round of his life Saturday at Rooster Run. Cuenco, a 5-handicap index, opened with a 7-under 65 that included eight birdies and just one bogey. In Sunday’s second round, Cuenco posted a 76 to come in at 3-under 141. He’d win the title by eight shots.

Second place went to Alexander Lin of Oakland at 149 following a final round 77. Kevin Sze of Saratoga was third at 154 after a 78 and Jackson Koivun of San Jose was fourth at 156 following a 78. Baron Szeto of Moraga took fifth at 157 after an 83.

The Girls’ First Flight Championship also saw a runaway winner, as Priya Bakshi of Palo Alto cruised to a five stroke win after coming in at 148 (72-76). Baskhi also was able to get in some birdies, posting five in the opening round to go against five bogeys.

Second place went to Madison Beckett of Santa Rosa at 153. Three players—San Jose’s Nicole Vivier, Jordan Briggs of Livermore and Kiara Romero of San Jose—finished T-3 at 154.

The 2016 Spring Series continues with the Spring Series V Championship, to be held at April 30-May 1 at Darkhorse Golf Club in Auburn.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 11, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series III Championship at Roddy Ranch Golf Course in Antioch.

Redwood City resident Matt Heitel shot 9-under 135 and Rocklin resident Nicole Schroeder shot 3-over 147 and defeated Cupertino resident Bibilani Liu in a playoff to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series III Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Roddy Ranch GC.

Heitel picked up his first win of the 2015-2016 season after putting together back-to-back rounds of 67-68. He’d beat the field by five strokes.

On Saturday, Heitel went 3-under through his first nine, finishing with a total of six birdies to go against just one bogey. A day later, Heitel was still in the groove, as he’d post five birdies to go against a lone bogey. His 9-under total was just three shots shy of Justin Suh’s record for lowest tournament total (12-under).

Finishing in second with a solid score of 4-under 140 was Milpitas’ Brian Ma. Ma’s play included a first round 5-under 67.

Third place went to Finigan Tilly of Redwood City at 141, while fourth place went to Hayden Hui of Dublin at 143. Cupertino’s Ethan Chung was fifth at 144.

The Girls’ Championship would go to a playoff after Schroeder came in with a final round 72 to tie Liu after regulation. Schroeder had stumbled with a double-bogey on the 16th, but came back with a birdie on the 18th to force extra holes. Liu had a chance to win outright but bogeyed the 18th. Schroeder won on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Liu held the lead after the first round following a 72.

In third place was Fremont’s Audrey Lim at 152 following matching rounds of 76. Vanessa Richani of Granite Bay and Ashely Shim of San Mateo finished T-4 at 155 after final rounds of 77 and 78, respectively.

Over in the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Jackson Koivun of San Jose shot a final round 77 to come in at 153 and defeat Dante Clark and Dean Cavanna by a stroke. Koivun sealed his win with a birdie on the 18th.

Clark, of San Jose, and Cavanna, of San Anselmo, finished at 154 following rounds of 77 and 78, respectively. Clark was awarded second place after a card-off.

Nathan Wang of Fremont took fourth at 155, while Evan Cuenco of Benicia was fifth at 156.

The Girls’ First Flight Championship title went to Nicole Vivier of San Jose at 161 (81-80). Vivier would defeat runner-up Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas by two shots.

Third place went to Katelyn Vo of San Jose at 165, while Julia Ni of Dublin was fourth at 166. Fifth place went to Patricia Sweeney of Folsom at 168.

The 2016 Spring Series continues with the Spring Series IV Championship, to be held April 23-24 at Adobe Creek GC and Rooster Run GC in Petaluma.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 21, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series II Championship at Windsor Golf Club in Windsor.

Alamo resident Ryan Grauman shot 2-over 146 and defeated Joshua McCarthy in a playoff and San Mateo resident Amanjoty Sangha shot 12-over 156 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series II Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Windsor GC.

Grauman’s victory, his second of the season, was keyed by a stellar2-under 70 in the first round.  After a front-nine 38, he’d catch fire, posting a 32 on his back-nine with four birdies.

While Grauman took the early lead, one of his pursuers was McCarthy. The 2014 JTNC Boys’ Player of the Year and Danville resident shot 72 to leave himself just two back.

On Sunday, Grauman slipped back to a 76 while McCarthy made a move with a 74, leaving them tied after regulation. In what became a playoff, Grauman came out on top on the second hole.

Finishing in third place at 147 was Robert Briggs of Novato after rounds of 73-74. Thomas Hutchison of San Jose and San Ramon’s Brendan Hy finished T-4 at 149 after final rounds of 74 and 78, respectively.

In the Girls’ Championship, Sangha outlasted her sister, Kiran, for her first win of the season.

A day after opening with matching scores of 80, Amanjoty posted a day-low 76 that featured two birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey. Kiran, meanwhile, shot 78. Kiran had a chance to catch Amanjoty but was stung by a critical double-bogey on the 16th hole.

Finishing in a tie for third at 160 were Angela Liu of San Jose and Belinda Hu of San Ramon following final rounds of 78 and 81, respectively. Liu was awarded third place in a card-off. Hu had taken the first round lead after opening with a 79.

Fifth place went to Danville’s Ty Akabane at 161 (80-81).

The Boys’ First Flight Championship title was captured by Allen Zhang of San Jose, who put together rounds of 76-82 to come in at 158.

Zhang defeated runner-up Krishan Patel of San Jose, who finished at 161 after a final round 84, by three shots. Taking third place at 171 was Lucas Happy of Petaluma. Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay and Owen Randolph each grabbed a share of fourth place at 172 following matching final rounds of 88.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Kaylen Choi of Dublin came in at 163 after a final round 80 to defeat runner-up Madison Beckett of Santa Rosa by two shots. Beckett shot 86-79.

Third place went to Kiana Briggs of Novato (171), while Adora JiaYi Wen of San Jose took fourth at 174. Pleasanton’s Kate Lim and Steffi Lin of San Ramon finished T-5 at 175.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 15, 2016) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2015-2016 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series I Championship at Stockton Golf and Country Club and The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.

San Jose resident Matt Lloyd shot 4-over 147 and Fresno resident Tammy Lim shot 5-over 76 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-71 Stockton G&CC and par-72 The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Lloyd’s victory, his first of the season, was keyed by a 5-under 67 in the first round at The Reserve at Spanos Park. Starting on the 2nd hole, he’d open with a birdie and tack on two more birdies with a bogey for a front-nine 34.

After making the turn, Lloyd went 3-under thanks in part to back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes.

In Sunday’s finale at Stockton G&CC, Lloyd and the rest of the field were hit by inclement weather. He’d shoot an 80, but held on to defeat runner-up Daniel Kim of San Jose by a stroke.

Kim, who opened with a 72 at The Reserve, followed that up with a 76 at Stockton G&CC. He’d have a chance to tie Lloyd and force a playoff but bogeyed the 18th.

Finishing in third place at 149 was Justin Gums of Lodi after rounds of 73-76. Noah Woolsey of Pleasanton placed fourth at 150 (75-75), with San Jose’s Thomas Hutchison taking fifth at 151 (76-75).

The Girls’ Championship was limited to 18 holes due to the bad weather.

Taking the title was Fresno’s Tammy Lim, who carded a 5-over 76 in Saturday’s first round at Stockton G&CC. Lim’s round included a birdie, two bogeys and a pair of double-bogeys.

Second place went to Emilee Hoffman of Folsom, who had a 77 with four bogeys and a double-bogey.

Three players—Amanjoty Sangha of San Mateo, Bibilani Liu of Cupertino and Katherine Zhu of San Jose—finished T-3 after opening with matching rounds of 78.

The Boys’ First Flight Championship title was captured by Evan Cuenco of Benicia, who put together rounds of 77-83 to come in at 160.

Cuenco defeated co-runner-ups Nathan Hutama of Fremont and William Kirkpatrick of Menlo Park by four shots. Hutama came in at 164 after rounds of 83-81 while Kirkpatrick shot 77-87. Ryan Garcia of Ceres was fourth at 165 (81-84) with Gregory Lee of San Jose placing fifth at 169 (84-85).

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Adora JiaYi Wen of San Jose and Varnika Achanta of San jose each came in tied with scores of 83. Wen was declared the winner following a card-off.

Three players—Sacramento’s Monique Peterson, Caleigh Clark of El Dorado Hills and Irene Jun of San Jose—finished T-3 after shooting 85.

The 2016 JTNC Spring Series will continue with the Spring Series II Championship, to be held March 19-20 at Windsor Golf Club in Windsor.
