CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Holiday Series I Championship at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (November 21, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2018-2019 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Tuesday at the Holiday Series I Championship at Del Monte Golf Course.

Fremont resident Nathan Wang shot 1-over 145 and defeated Sam Sommerhauser of Rocklin in a playoff and San Jose resident Irene Jun shot 14-over 158 to win their respective divisions at the Holiday Series I Championship held Monday and Tuesday at par-72 Del Monte GC in Monterey.

Wang captured his first win of the season with a solid second round 70. He’d defeat Sommerhauser on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff with a par.

A day after opening with a 75, Wang went 4-under with four birdies through his first 11 holes. He’d fall back into a tie with Sommerhauser after he bogeyed the 17^th and 18^th.

Sommerhauser got into the playoff by playing the back-nine at 1-under thanks to two birdies. He’d card a final round 74.

Three players—Griffin Long of Davis, Ben Soicher of Mill Valley and Alexander Barclay of Pleasanton—finished T-3 at 146. Long earned third place following a card-off.

In the Girls’ Championship, Jun notched her first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to a second round 77 that feature two birdies and a back-nine 2-over 38.

Overall, Jun would post four birdies. Runner-up Claire Chen of Fremont came in at 160 after a final round 82.

Three players—Ashley Pan of Moraga, Hannah Harrison of Granite Bay and Kaylen Tu of Orinda—finished T-3 at 162. Pan was awarded third place following a card-off (low back-nine score).

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Jaden Dumdumaya of Fairfield shot a final round 74 to come in at 152 and defeat runner-up Chris Bettencourt of Clovis by five shots.

Reese Sato of Folsom was third at 158, while Matthew Almajano of Fremont was fourth at 159. Luke Montoya of Arroyo Grande placed fifth at 160.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Varsha Ramachandran of Fremont shot a final round 76 to come in at 154, defeating runner-up Ellen Jun of San Jose by seven shots. Jun shot a final round 81.

Camille Thai of Los Altos was third at 163, while Orinda’s Kaydee Tu was fourth at 165. Jordan Chan of Los Altos and Michelle Ho of San Ramon were T-5 at 168.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Holiday Series II Championship, to be held Dec. 1-2 at Morro Bay Golf Course in Morro Bay.

*Special Announcement*  On Saturday October 20th, day one of the tournament, we will have a guest speaker, Brendan Ryan, following play.  He is an expert in the “college golf process” and is joining us to not only gather information for some of his current research, but to talk with players and parents about what’s involved in taking the next step into college golf.  He is planning on speaking a couple of different times as players are finishing and he will be available to answer questions and talk throughout the afternoon.

Brendan’s background includes playing college golf, as well as a 7 year coaching career. He also holds several higher degrees and is the author of several books, academic articles and popular articles.  Including one that can be found on the JTNC blog.   Brendan Ryan is the owner of Golf Placement Services which helps students identify and connect with schools which meet their academic, athletic, social and financial needs.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series IX Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (October 22, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2018-2019 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series IX Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course.

San Jose resident Sebastian Iqbal shot 8-under 136 and Fremont resident Mika Jin shot even-par 144 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series IX Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Poppy Ridge GC in Livermore.

Iqbal grabbed his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to stellar play both days.

In Saturday’s opener, Iqbal posted a solid, bogey-free 67 with five birdies. A day later, he’d card five more birdies to go against two bogeys to hold off co-runners-up Connor Motherway of Reno and Lucas Carper of San Jose by six shots.

Motherway and Carper each shot identical rounds of 69-73. Motherway was awarded second place following a card-off.

Five players—Nickolai Friedman of Corte Madera, Darren Pang of San Jose, Nathan Wang of Fremont, Gregory Lee of San Jose and Danville’s Justin Hopkins—all finished T-4 at 144.

In the Girls’ Championship, Jin secured her second win of the season by closing with three straight pars on the 16^th through 18^th holes on Sunday. Jin, who earlier won the Fall Series VI Championship, posted seven birdies overall to offset seven bogeys.

Pleasanton resident Jaclyn LaHa was second at 145 following a final round 71. She’s make a huge late charge with three straight birdies on holes 16-18 but it wasn’t enough to catch Jin.

Jasmine Chen of Pleasanton and Stockton’s Anitra Khoth finished T-3 at 149 after final rounds of 68 and 71, respectively. Chen would be awarded third place in a card-off.

Sloane Bayer of Fresno was fifth at 150.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Andre Chung of San Francisco shot a final round 71 to come in at 148, defeating runner-up Kael Hoang of Antioch by two. Hoang had back-to-back rounds of 75.

Kibum Kim of Pleasanton was third at 152. Leland Tsai of Castro Valley was fourth at 153 and Christopher Pantaleon of San Jose was fifth at 154.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Joyce Zhang of Milpitas shot a final round 79 to finish at 155, defeating runner-up Harper Clementz of San Francisco by a shot. Clementz had a final round 76.

Varsha Ramachandran of Fremont was third at 157. Olivia Duan of Cupertino took fourth at 158 and Celine Ho of San Jose and Jordan Chan of Los Gatos were T-5 at 164.

Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay had the shot of the tournament, acing the par-3 7th in Saturday’s first round.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (October 15, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2018-2019 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series VIII Championship at Pajaro Valley Golf Club.

Saratoga resident Caleb Shetler shot 6-under 138 and Fremont resident Claire Chen shot 5-over 149 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series VIII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Pajaro Valley Golf Club in Watsonville.

Shetler got his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to great play both days and a clutch birdie.

On Sunday, Shetler closed with a birdie on the par-4 18^th to come in with a 70, holding off runner-up Nathan Wang of Fremont by a stroke. Shetler, who opened with a stellar 4-under 68, had an eagle and five birdies over his 36 holes.

Wang, who finished with a 72, tied Shetler when he made a birdie on the 17^th. But he’d have to settle for a par on the 18^th.

Third place went to Alexander Iniakov of Prunedale at 142 after a 73.

Krishan Patel of San Jose was fourth at 144, and Kyle Kuest of Fresno was fifth at 145.

In the Girls’ Championship, Chen also got her first win of the season by closing with a clutch birdie on the 18^th. Chen would fire a second round 70 featuring six birdies to hold off runner-up Mika Jin of Fremont by a shot.

Jin who won the Fall Series VI title, shot a second 76 to come in at 150. Third place went to Emily Luo of Danville at 151.

Finishing in a tie for fourth at 152 were Emily Hou of San Ramon and Kiara Romero of San Jose.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Alexander Suen of Dublin had a final round 76 to come in at 152, defeating runner-up Jamison Tan of Los Altos by two shots. Tan had a final round 77.

Howard Shu of Saratoga and Aptos’ Nicolas Gavasse were T-3 at 155. Shu won the card-off. Matthew Almajano of Fremont and Christian Shackleford of Camarillo were T-5 at 157.

Fourth place went to Erika Gosti of Fremont at 166, while Audrey Wang of Fremont was fifth at 171.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (October 8, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2018-2019 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series VII Championship at Windsor Golf Club.

Carmichael resident Matthew Sutherland shot even-par 144 and Chico resident Jacqueline Lucena shot 3-over 147 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series VII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Windsor Golf Club in Windsor.

Sutherland notched his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to solid play both rounds. Just a week prior, Sutherland won the Pro-Junior at the annual PGA Tour Champions PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee.

In Saturday’s opener, he’d post four birdies on his way to a 71. A day later, he’d card three more birdies, including a crucial one on the 17^th, for a 73 to hold off runner-up Sebastian Iqbal of San Jose by two shots.

Iqbal made a charge with a second round 71 that featured four birdies and just one bogey.

Third place went to Krishan Patel of San Jose at 147, while Ethan Chung of Cupertino was fourth at 148. Connor Motherway of Reno was fifth at 149.

In the Girls’ Championship, Lucena also captured her first title of the season thanks to solid play both days.

On Saturday, Lucena carded two birdies en route to a 74. A day later, she’d go a stroke lower, posting a 73 thanks to a three-birdie, front-nine 33 to defeat runner-up Gia Feliciano of Concord by five shots.

Feliciano had a second round 78 to come in at 152, while Kiana Briggs of Novato was third at 154.

Jaclyn LaHa of Pleasanton was fourth at 155, with Milpitas’ Cynthia Zhang taking fifth at 156.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Kaylon Hoang of Antioch shot a final round 72 to come in at 154, defeating co-runner-ups Henry Lambert of Piedmont and Will Phelan of Rocklin by five shots. Lambert earned second place after a card-off (coin flip).

Tyler Momano of Pinole was fourth at 166. Kael Hoang of Antioch and Aaron Young of Benicia were T-5 at 174.

San Jose resident Lucas Carper shot 4-under 140 and Fremont resident Mika Jin shot even-par 144 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series VI Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Greenhorn Creek Resort in Angels Camp.

Carper notched his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to great play both rounds.

He’d card back-to-back rounds of 70 to defeat co-runners-up Jacob Westberg of Sacramento and Jackson Koivun of San Jose by four shots. Carper overall posted an eagle and nine birdies to go against seven bogeys.

Westberg and Koivun had final rounds of 72 and 73, respectively, to finish tied at 144. Westberg earned second place in a card-off.

Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay was fourth at 145, while Sam Sommerhauser of Rocklin was fifth at 146.

In the Girls’ Championship, Jin ran away with an eight-shot victory thanks to a sensational first round 69. She’d post six birdies to go against just three bogeys, running off three straight birdies from holes No.7 through No.9.

Melinda Yuan of San Ramon was second at 152, with Madelyn Gamble of Pleasant Hill taking third at 153.

Finishing in fourth was Pleasanton’s Jaclyn LaHa at 154. Hannah Harrison of Granite Bay and Andrea Gomez of Santa Clara tied for fifth at 155.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Leland Tsai of Castro Valley shot a final round 80 to finish at 160, defeating runner-up Alexander Suen of Dublin by four shots.

Bakersfield resident Dakota Ochoa shot 2-under 142 and defeated Caleb Shetler in a playoff and San Ramon resident Emily Hou shot 3-over 147 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series V Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Ridge Creek Golf Course.

Ochoa notched his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to great play both days. He’d card rounds of 70-72.

In Saturday’s opener, Ochoa posted five birdies to go against three bogeys. A day later, he’d card two birdies and two bogeys.

Shetler, of Saratoga, also was steady, posting back-to-back rounds of 71. Needing to make a move, he’d card a Sunday back-nine 35 despite a double-bogey.

Jared Tungol of Rocklin and Maverick Pavletich of Bakersfield finished T-3 at 144 after rounds of 70 and 71, respectively. Tungol took third in a card-off.

David Llewellyn of Fresno was fifth at 145.

In the Girls’ Championship, Hou took the title thanks to great play on Sunday. She’d post a 1-under featuring three birdies and just two bogeys to defeat runner-up Andrea Gomez of Santa Clara by three strokes.

Hou, who also got her first win, had six birdies overall through her 36 holes. Gomez had rounds of 77-73.

Ashley Pan of Moraga took third at 151 after a final round 76.

Claire Wright of Chowchilla was fourth at 152 and Borina Sutikto was fifth at 153.

Granite Bay resident Dylan McDermott shot 8-under 136 and Pleasant Hill resident Madelyn Gamble shot 1-under 143 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series IV Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.

McDermott got his second win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to great play both days. He’d card back-to-back rounds of 4-under 68.

In Saturday’s opener, McDermott posted four birdies with zero bogeys. A day later, he’d again go bogey-free with four birdies to defeat a group of players by three shots.

Four players—Lucas Carper of San Jose, Baron Szeto of Moraga, Rocklin’s Sam Sommerhauser and Carmel’s George McNeely—all came in at 139.

Carper and Szeto had the best rounds on Sunday of the four, posting rounds of 69 and 70, respectively. Carper earned second place in a card-off.

In the Girls’ Championship, Gamble shot a Sunday 2-under 70 to edge runner-up Marina Mata of Palo Alto by two shots.

Gamble, who also won her first event of the new season, opened with a 73 that featured a birdie and two bogeys. A day later, she’d post three birdies with just one bogey.

Mata, who had rounds of 72-73, had a chance to catch Gamble but bogeyed both the 15^th and 18^th on Sunday.

Four players—Melinda Yuan of San Ramon, Yena and Yevon jang of Roseville and Jacqueline Lucena of Chico—all finished T-3 at 146. Yena Jang earned third place in a card-off.

Steck got his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to a solid Sunday finish. He’d play his final 11 holes at 4-under with five birdies and just one bogey to edge runner-up Connor Lien of Cupertino by two shots.

On Saturday, Steck had two birdies en route to a 73. Lien made birdie on the 11^th to tie Steck, but slipped with a bogey on the closing 18th to come in at 1-over 145.

Jackson Koivun of San Jose was third at 146 after a 73. He’d birdie the 15^th to flirt with the lead, but later double-bogeyed the 18^th.

Steven Chen of San Jose and Akira Isayama of Palo Alto finished T-4 at 147 after matching rounds of 75.

In the Girls’ Championship, Chen was solid in both rounds to defeat runner-up Selena Tang of Fremont by three strokes. Chen posted five birdies overall, including two on Sunday on her front-nine that paved the way to victory.

Tang was in the mix but finished with a back-nine 40 to land in second place.

Danielle Suh of San Ramon, who was aiming for her third straight win, came in third at 151 after a 75.

Camille Chung of San Francisco was fourth at 152, while Divya Tadmeti was fifth at 154.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship,  Jonathan Le of San Jose shot a final round 73 to come in at 144, defeating runner-up Luke Montoya of Arroyo Grande by seven shots.

Third place went to Bowen Yin of Fremont at 153. Matthew Almajano of Fremont was fourth at 154 and Aditya Das of Fremont was fifth at 156.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Malia Loo of Millbrae shot a final round 75 to come in at 157, defeating co-runners-up Celine Ho of San Jose and Sophia Bardunias of San Ramon by three.

Ericka Gosti of Fremont was third at 163. Camille Thai of San Jose and Kalea Hall of Salinas were T-5 at 166.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Fall Series IV Championship, to be held Sept. 8-9 at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series II Championship at Rancho Murieta Country Club in Rancho Murieta

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 27, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series II Championship at Rancho Murieta Country Club.

Granite Bay resident Dylan McDermott shot 2-under 142 and San Ramon resident Danielle Suh shot 1-over 145 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series II Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Rancho Murieta Country Club.

McDermott notched his first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to a solid 1-under 35 Sunday back-nine. Trying to hold off both Sam Sommerhauser and Zachary McKay, McDermott had a birdie on the 14^th and eight pars.

McDermott was also steady on Saturday, posting a 69 with six birdies. Sommerhauser, of Rocklin, had back-to-back rounds of 72. McKay shot 70-74.

Sommerhauser earned third place following a card-off (lower back-nine score).  Baron Szeto of Moraga was fourth at 145 after a 73, while Mitchell Hoey was fifth at 147 following a 69.

In the Girls’ Championship, Suh got her second straight win of the 2018-2019 season via solid back-to-back rounds of 72-73. Suh, who’d defeat the field by nine shots, posted five birdies and 26 pars over her two rounds.

Maddie Jun of Mountain View, Sammy Lee of San Ramon and Borina Sutikto of Fremont finished tied for second at 154 after all three finished with rounds of 76. Jun won second place in a card-off, with Sutikto earning third in a card-off.

Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas and Kiana Briggs of Novato finished T-5 at 155 after rounds of 77 and 79, respectively.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Giuliano Kaminski of Los Gatos shot a final round 77 to come in at 152, defeating runner-up Jonathan Le of San Jose by two shots.

Alexander Pham of San Jose was third at 156, while Will Phelan of Rocklin took fourth at 158. Leland Tsai of Castro Valley was fifth at 153.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Belinda Sutikto of Fremont shot a final round 79 to come in at 163, defeating runner-up Camille Thai of Los Altos by four.

Sophia Bardunias of San Ramon was third at 171, while Joyce Zhang of Milpitas was fourth at 174. Erika Gosh of Fremont took fifth at 179.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series I Championship at Cypress Lakes Golf Course in Vacaville

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 20, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series I Championship at Cypress Lakes Golf Course.

Reno resident Connor Motherway shot 3-under 141 and San Ramon resident Danielle Suh shot 4-under 140 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Cypress Lakes Golf Course.

Motherway bagged the first win of the 2018-2019 season thanks to a clutch birdie on the par-4, 451 yard 18^th hole. He’d defeat co-runners-up Sam Sommerhauser of Rocklin and Woojin Gallo of Walnut Creek by a stroke.

Overall, Motherway was consistent, posting seven birdies and 25 pars to go against just four bogeys.

Sommerhauser also closed with a birdie on the 18^th to get within one. He’d post rounds of 70-72. Gallo, who led after a first round 67, slipped back with a 75. In a card-off, Sommerhauser would earn second place.

Paramdeep Sodhi of Folsom and Griffin Long of Davis finished T-4 at 143 after rounds of 71 and 73, respectively.

In the Girls’ Championship, Suh got the first win of the 2018-2019 season via a runaway. She’d card back-to-back rounds of 70 to defeat the field by eight shots.

Over her two rounds, Suh posted seven birdies and 27 pars to go against just one bogey and a double-bogey.

Alexandria Christeson of Livermore was second at 148. Third place was a tie between Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas and Yena Jang of Roseville at 150.  Divva Tadmeti of Palo Alto finished fifth at 152.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Jonathan Le of San Jose shot a final round 76 to come in at 148 to defeat runner-up Andre Chung of San Francisco by six strokes.

Colton Hunt of El Dorado Hills and Howard Shu of Saratoga finished T-3 at 155, while Jeremy Yun of Palo Alto and Dublin’s Nathan Park were T-5 at 159.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Ellexis Mingming of Walnut Creek shot a final round 78 to come in at 155, defeating runner-up Kalea Hall of Salinas by three shots.

Joyce Zhang of Milpitas was third at 161, Kati Wilkes of Danville was fourth at 162 and Sophia Bardunias of San Ramon was fifth at 165.
