Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series II Championship at Paso Robles Golf Club in Paso Robles

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 26, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series II Championship at Paso Robles Golf Club in Paso Robles.

Luke Montoya shot 4-over par 144 and Brenna Preap shot 7-over 147 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series Ii Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-70 Paso Robles GC.

 

Montoya earned his first win of the season, coming up with a clutch birdie on the 17th hole to fend off runner-up Nathan Lee by a shot. The birdie came in handy, as Montoya closed with a double-bogey. Overall, Montoya carded eight birdies over his 36-holes.

Lee had opened with a sensational 68, but fell back to a 77 on Sunday. Lee had a chance to tie but made bogey on each of his last three holes.

Nicholas Mouser was third at 146 after a final round 71. Gerad Matthew Lee and Christian Maggard finished T-4 at 147.

In the Girls’ Championship, Preap notched her first win of the season thanks to solid play each day. Preap was clutch, playing her final nine holes at just 2-over to hold off runner-up Cathy Zhang by two shots.

Keira Howard was third at 152 following a final round 77. Lisa Shimmon was fourth at 153 and Alexa Pineda was fifth at 154.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Cru Sullivan shot a final round 73 to come in at 144 and defeat runner-up Shane Moncrief by nine shots. Moncrief had a final round 75.

Nathan Tarter and Kirin Desai finished T-3 at 154. Elias Moncrief was fifth at 155.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Giana Grace Gunasayan shot a final round 77 to come in at 159 and defeat runner-up Addison Claire Lee by three strokes. Lee had a final round 76.

Third place went to Erin Le Nguyen at 165, with Sofia Pierson placing fourth at 174. Maya London was fifth at 178.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series III Championship, set for April 2-3 at DeLeavega Golf Course in Santa Cruz.

Junior Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series I Championship at Stockton Golf and Country Club and The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 21, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series I Championship at Stockton Golf and Country Club and The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.

Jaden Dumdumaya shot 5-under par 138 and Asterisk Talley shot 5-over 148 and defeated Cathy Zhang in a sudden-death playoff to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-71 Stockton G&CC and par-72 The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Dumdumaya picked up his fourth win of the 2021-22 season and 10th of his JTNC career, leaving him just one win behind all-time leader Justin Suh.

On Saturday, Dumdumaya carded six birdies to go against just one miscue, a double-bogey on the par-4 10th. A day later, Dumdumaya posted four birdies to offset three bogey for a 70.

Clark van Gaalen was runner-up at 144 following rounds of 73-71, while Dominic Crofult was third at 147 after a final round 74. Andre Zhagn and Andrew Ma tied for fourth at 149.

In the Girls’ Championship, Talley won her fifth title of the 2021-2022 season, leaving her just three behind leader Sabrina Iqbal for most JTNC wins in season.

Talley opened with a 72 that included three birdies and two bogeys. A day later she shot 76 but made a clutch par on 18. Zhang was steady, posting back-to-back rounds of 74. She’d play her last seven holes at 1-under to join Talley in the playoff.

Keira Howard was third at 150 after a final round 72. Emily Luo was fourth (153) and Michelle Woo was fifth (154).

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Ian Cheng shot a final round 76 to come in at 150 and defeat runner-up William Chang by a stroke. Chang had a final round 73.

Third place went to Richard Ding at 152. Fourth place went to Nathan Tarter at 155, with Ethan Cheng taking fifth at 158.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Chloe Ku shot a final round 86 to come in at 165 and defeat runner-up Jayleen Sito by a stroke. Sito had a final round 83.

Third place went to Sai Kaneshiro at 167, with Saisha Vibhute placing fourth at 168. Jaylyn Remolona and Melody Chen were T-5 at 173.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series II Championship, set for March 26-27 at Paso Robles Golf Club in Paso Robles.

 

6th Challenge Cup

The Challenge Cup title is headed back to Southern California.

On Tuesday, the PGA Southern California Junior Tour made it a sweep, winning Singles play at Poppy Hills by a score of 6.5-5.5 to come away with a 14.5-9.5 victory in the sixth rendition of the Cup. The series is now tied at three wins apiece.

The Challenge Cup is a two-day competition featuring 12 of the best JTNC players (eight boys, four girls) taking on 12 of the best from the PGA Southern California Junior Tour in a Ryder-Cup like format.

In the first round of Fourball and Foursomes, the SoCal squad had taken a commanding 8-4 lead. In Singles play, team SoCal got wins from Luke Powell, Patrick Hong, Daniel Heo, Luciano Conlan, Jasmine Koo and Frances Kim. The NCGA got wins from Zachery Pollo, Aditya Das, Clark Van Gaalen, Asterisk Talley and Sophie Thai.

Team SoCal is in control, but there’s still one more day left in the annual Challenge Cup at Poppy Hills Golf Course.

On Monday, the PGA Southern California Junior Tour grabbed an 8-4 lead as teams played nine holes of Fourball and nine holes of Foursomes. In Four-Ball, the two teams split, 3-3. Winning tandems for the JTNC were Edan Cui and Jaden Dumdumaya, Aditya Das and Matthew Almajano and Zachery Pollo and Clark Van Gaalen. Winning for SoCal were the teams of Kylie Chong and Frances Kim, Jasmine Koo and Elise Lee and Luke Powell and Daniel Heo.

In Four-Ball, Socal went on a tear, winning 5-1. The lone winning tandem for the JTNC was Cui and Dumdumaya.

Tuesday’s play will consist of Singles play.

The Challenge Cup is a two-day competition featuring 12 of the best JTNC players (eight boys, four girls) taking on 12 of the best from the PGA Southern California Junior Tour in a Ryder-Cup like format.

The NCGA leads the series 3-2 following the NCGA’s victory in 2020. The event was not held last year due to COVID-19.

Holiday Series III – Del Monte & Poppy Hills GC

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Dec. 30, 2021) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Thursday at the Holiday Series III Championship at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey and Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

Edan Cui shot 4-under par 138 and Gianna Singh shot 10-over 152 and defeated Asterisk Talley in a sudden-death playoff to win their respective divisions at the Holiday Series III Championship held Wednesday and Thursday at par-70 Del Monte GC and par-72 Poppy Hills GC.

Cui, who played in the Challenge Cup, picked up his first win of the 2021-22 season thanks to a solid second round 4-under 66 at Del Monte that featured seven birdies and three bogeys.

In Wednesday’s opener at Poppy Hills, Cui shot an even-par 72 that included three birdies.

Reese Sato and Chanhee Ryu tied for second at 144 after final rounds of 69 and 74, respectively. Sato would earn second place following a card-off.

Fourth place went to Clark Van Gaalen at 145, with Joshua Wang placing fifth at 146.

In the Girls’ Championship, Singh cooled off a red-hot Talley, making a birdie on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff for the win. Both players finished at 152 after final rounds of 81 and 77, respectively.

Singh in the opening round posted a 71 that included two birdies and three bogeys. Talley made a clutch birdie on the 18th to force the playoff.

Third place went to Sammie Miller at 155 following a final round 77. Fourth place was captured by Lily Peng at 156, with fifth place going to Abigail Lin at 157.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Griffin Chiu shot a final round 86 to come in at 158 and defeat runner-up Aiden Lew by two shots. Lew had a final round 80.

Third place went to Liam Eyer at 161. Three players—Shane Moncrief, Aaron Young and Chase Hamel—finished T-4 at 163.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Tiffany Chang shot a final round 75 to finish at 162 and defeated Samantha Chiou in a card-off to win. Chiou came in at 162 as well after a final round 81.

Third place went to Victoria Cui at 163, with Saisha Vibhute placing fourth at 168. Jayleen Sito was fifth at 178.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series I Championship, set for March 19-20 at Stockton Golf and Country Club and The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Nov. 24, 2021) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Tuesday at the Holiday Series I Championship at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey and Pacific Grove Golf Links in Pacific Grove.

Jayden Dumdumaya shot 6-under par 136 and Asterisk Talley shot even-par 142 to win their respective divisions at the Holiday Series I Championship held Monday and Tuesday at par-72 Del Monte GC and par-70 Pacific Grove GL.

Dumdumaya picked up his third win of the season and moved into a tie for second on the all-time JTNC win list with nine victories. In winning, Dumdumaya set a record for most Boys’ JTNC wins in a calendar year with seven. The previous record had been held by Thomas Hutchison with six.

In Monday’s first round at Pacific Grove, Dumdumaya was on fire, posting a hole-out eagle 2 on the par-4 4th and adding four more birdies. A day later, he’d card a 72 but still was able to win by three shots over the field.

Clark Van Gaalen was runner-up at 139 after a 74 at Del Monte. On Monday, Van Gaalen also went low at PG, posting a 65.

Third place went to Brandon Knight at 141 following a card-off win over Jayden Lizama, who also came in at 141. Zackery Tarter and Austin Wang both tied for fifth at 142.

In the Girls’ Championship, Talley notched her fifth win of the season and record fifth in a row. It also marked Talley’s eighth win in a calendar year, breaking a record set by Sabrina Iqbal in 2016.

Talley was steady both days, posting rounds of 71-71. Overall, she’d card five birdies over her 36 holes.

Second place went to Emily Luo at 144 after rounds of 75-69. The 69 was the low Girls’ round for the two days. Third place went to Michelle Ho at 146.

Ellie Bushnell was fourth at 148 and Janna Andaya was fifth at 154.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Christian Choi shot a final round 73 to come in at 148 and defeat runner-up Liam Eyer by two shots. Eyer had a final round 75.

Third place went to Shane Moncrief at 151. Three players—Andrew Oh, Mario Stump and Angelo Bidart—finished T-4 at 155.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Tiffany Chang carded a final round 79 to come in at 159 and defeated Samantha Chiou and Jayleen Sito in a card-off to win the title. Chiou had a final round 79 while Sito shot 81.

Fourth place went to Saisha Vibhute at 166. Sophie Cook was fifth at 168.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Holiday Series Ii Sally Pini Invitational, to be held Dec. 13 at Pasatiempo GC in Santa Cruz.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2021) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series IX Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.

Jayden Dumdumaya shot 2-under par 142 and defeated Joey Hayden in a playoff and Asterisk Talley shot even-par 144 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series IX Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Poppy Ridge.

Dumdumaya picked up his second win of the season and moved to third on the all-time JTNC win list with eight victories. In Saturday’s first round, Dumdumaya was on fire, posting six birdies with zero bogeys.

A day later, Dumdumaya fell back to a 76, opening the door for Hayden. Hayden, who opened with a solid 68, shot a second round 74 and made a clutch birdie on the 18th on Sunday for a 74 to tie Dumdumaya. In the ensuing playoff, Dumdumaya would prevail on the third hole.

Third place went to Matthew Almajano at 144 after a final round 73. Chanhee Ryu was fourth at 146 after a 78. Lukas Taggart and Julian Monas finished T-5 at 147.

In the Girls’ Championship, Talley notched her fourth win of the season and record-tying fourth in a row. It also marked Talley’s seventh career JTNC win, all of which have come during 2021, tying a record set by Sabrina Iqbal in 2016.

Talley was stellar on Saturday, carding a 69 that included four birdies, 13 pars and just one bogey. A day later, she posted a 75 to win by three over runner-up Sophie Thai. Thai came in at 147 after a final round 76.

Haley Wong was third at 150. Four players—Abigail Lin, Sophia Bardunias, Kiana Briggs and Emily Luo—finished T-4 at 152.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Andrew Oh shot a final round 80 to come in at 151 and defeat runner-up Cru Sullivan by two shots. Sullivan had a final round 77.

Neal Lavelle was third at 154, and Braden Chestnut was fourth at 156. Three players—Angelo Bidart, Liam Eyer and William Chang—finished T-5 at 157.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Saisha Vibhute shot a final round 79 to come in at 160 and defeat runner-up Samantha Chiou by two shots. Chiou had a final round 81.

Jayleen Sito and Elizabeth Gong finished T-3 at 164. Sito was awarded third place in a card-off. Tiffany Chang was fifth at 165.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2021) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series VIII Championship at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey.

Ethan Lien shot 1-under par 143 and defeated Cole Kroeker in a playoff and Asterisk Talley shot 2-over 146 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series VIII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Laguna Seca Golf Ranch.

Lien picked up his first win of the season thanks to solid play both days. In Saturday’s opener, he’d post 15 pars and a birdie. A day later, Lien carded four birdies, including two clutch ones on the 16th and 17th holes for a final 71.

Kroeker was sensational on Saturday, posting six birdies and a hole-out eagle (par-4 11th) en route to a 68. On Sunday, Kroeker shot 75.

Julia Monas and Clark Van Gaalen finished T-3 at 144 after final rounds of 70 and 74, respectively. Monas earned third place in a card-off. Chris Bettencourt was fifth at 145.

In the Girls’ Championship, Talley notched her third win of the season and second in a row thanks to steady play each day.  On Saturday, Talley had three birdies to go against five bogeys. A day later, she’d post 16 pars on her way to a second straight 73.

Co-runners-up Janna Andaya and Francesca Sumcad came up just a shot short at 147 after final rounds of 69 and 72, respectively. Andaya made a run in the final round, posting a 69 with three birdies.

Ryan Flynn was fourth at 149. Cathy Zhang placed fifth at 150.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Andrew Oh shot a final round 74 to come in at 146 and defeat runner-up Drake Smith by six shots. Smith had a final round 78.

Nick Cardinalli and Taiga Minami finished T-3 at 153. Cardinalli earned third place after a card-off. Matthew Gerad Lee was fifth at 154.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Samantha Chiou shot a final round 83 to come in at 156 and defeat runner-up Claire Addison Lee by six shots. Lee had a final round 80.

Third place went to Elizabeth Gong at 167. Jayleen Sito was fourth at 168. Cynthia Liu and Saisha Vibhute were T-5 at 169.

Chelsea Kim had the shot of the weekend, acing the par-3 14th on Sunday.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Fall Series IX Championship, to be held Oct. 16-17 at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2021) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series VII Championship at Windsor Golf Club in Windsor.

Clark Van Gaalen shot 7-under par 137 and Asterisk Talley shot 6-over 150 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series VII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Windsor Golf Club.

Van Gaalen picked up his first win of the season with stellar play each day. In the opener, he’d card six birdies to go against just two bogeys. A day later, Van Gaalen three birdies and an eagle (par-5 10th) to win by four over runner-up Will Hoff.

Hoff came in at 141 following a second round 70. Brandon Knight and Brandon Torres finished T-3 at 144 after final rounds of 71 and 73, respectively. Knight was awarded third place in a card-off.

Aditya Das and Arjun Aujla finished T-5 at 145.

In the Girls’ Championship, Talley notched her second win of the season thanks in part to clutch play down the stretch. She’d play her final seven holes at 1-over par to finish with a 76, good enough to hold off co-runners-up Meghan Paracuelles and Kara Lee by a stroke. On Saturday, Talley posted a pair of birdies.

Paracuelles got within one shot of Talley but had to settle for pars over her final four holes. Lee also was within a shot of the leader but made par over her five final holes. Paracuelles would earn second place in a card-off.

Penny Chai was fourth at 152. Jessie Burch and Ryan Flynn finished T-5 at 153.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Cru Sullivan shot a final round 73 to come in at 154, defeating runner-up Nick Savano by a stroke. Savano had a final round 78.

Third place went to James Ye at 156. Drake Smith was fourth at 157 and Evan Hwang was fifth at 158.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Victoria Cui shot a final round 75 to come in at 157 and defeat runner-up Samantha Chiou by seven shots. Chiou had a final round 81.

Third place went to Elzabeth Gong at 174. Jaylyn Remolona was fourth at 180.

CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Fall Series VI Championship at Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2021) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Fall Series VI Championship at Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland.

Zachery Pollo shot 11-under par 133 and Kara Lee shot 1-under 143 to win their respective divisions at the Fall Series VI Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Yolo Fliers Club.

Pollo picked up his third win of the season and 7th of his JTNC career to pass Bryson DeChambeau and Joshua McCarthy on the all-time win list. Justin Suh is the all-time leader with 11 victories.

A day after a 69, Pollo shot an 8-under 64, tying the record for the third lowest 18-hole score in JTNC history. During the round, Pollo had eight birdies with zero bogeys.

Second place went to Ben Ragland, who came in at 136 thanks in part to a first round 66.

Chanhee Ryu and Ted Davenport finished T-3 at 138. Ryu, who had a final round 68, was awarded third place following a card-off. Aditya Das was fifth at 139.

In the Girls’ Championship, Lee posted a final round 68 to edge co-runners-up Ryan Flynn and Ellie Bushnell by a shot. Lee, who nabbed her first win of the season, had a back-nine 31 on Sunday with five birdies.

Flynn and Bushnell both had final rounds of 73. Flynn had a chance but was hurt by a bogey on the par-4 10th. Bushnell double-bogeyed the 16th. Flynn would be awarded second place following a card-off.

Emma Wang was fourth at 145 after a final round 70. Abigail Lin was fifth at 149.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Iain Vodopich shot a final round 70 to come in at 6-under 138 and defeat co-runners-up Drue Henry Sanchez and Winston Pani by seven shots. Sanchez had a final round 72, while Pani had a 74. Sanchez was awarded second place in a card-off.

Fourth place went to Aaron Young at 152, with Drake Smith taking fifth at 153.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Jiana Park shot a final round 78 to come in at 155 and defeat runner-up Serene Kim by two shots. Kim had a final round 78.

Katherine Keith was third at 167, with Alexis McCoy fourth at 172. Fifth place went to Nailah Jackson at 178.

Hyunhu Na had the shot of the championship, acing the par-3 15th on Sunday.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Fall Series VII Championship, to be held Oct. 2-3 at Windsor Golf Club in Windsor.
