CIG-Sponsored Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series VI Championship at Monarch Bay Golf Course in San Leandro

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 14, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series VI Championship at Monarch Bay Golf Course in San Leandro.

Hayward resident Moses Greene shot 1-over 143 and Fremont resident Mika Jin shot 2-over 144 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VI Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-71 Monarch Bay GC.

Greene picked up his first win of the 2017-2018 season thanks to clutch play in Sunday’s finale. He’d card a 2-under 69 with four birdies and two bogeys to edge co-runners-up Ryan Grauman of Alamo and Brendon Choe of Orinda by two shots.

Overall, Greene, who opened with a 74, made seven birdies to stay in control. Grauman, who earned second place in a card-off, posted nine birdies but also had seven bogeys and a double-bogey. Choe shot a second round 71 featuring four birdies and four bogeys.

Darren Pang of San Ramon and Ethan Chung of Cupertino finished T-4 at 146 following final rounds of 70 and 75, respectively.

In the Girls Championship, Jin notched her third win of the season and moved closer to the top spot in the Girls’ Player of the Year standings after making a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to defeat runner-up Danielle Suh of San Ramon by a stroke.

Overall, Jin posted four birdies to go against six bogeys. Suh also birdied the 18th but stumbled a hole prior with a bogey on No.17.

Selena Tang of Fremont was third at 155 following a 77.  Anitra Khoth of Stockton was fourth at 156 and Cynthia Zhang of Milpitas was fifth at 157.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series VI First Flight Championship, to be held May 20 at Monarch Bay Golf Club in San Leandro.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 30, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series V Championship at Darkhorse Golf Course in Auburn.

Youth on Course East Bay member Alan Chen shot 2-under 142 and YOC Pleasanton member Alice Liu shot 4-over 148 and defeated Danielle Suh in a playoff to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series V Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Darkhorse Golf Course.

Chen captured his first title of the season thanks to solid play both days. In Saturday’s opener, he’d post a 2-under 70 featuring seven birdies, a bogey and two double-bogeys. A day later, Chen was even steadier, carding three birdies to go against three bogeys to defeat runner-up Baron Szeto of YOC East Bay by three shots.

Szeto also carded a 70 in the opener, posting seven birdies, but he’d slip to a 75 on Sunday to come in at 145.

Gregory Lee of YOC Santa Teresa and Paramdeep Sodhi of YOC tftgs both finished T-3 at 146 after rounds of 73. Lee claimed third place in a card-off. Lucas Carper of E-Club South Bay finished fifth at 147.

In the Girls Championship, Liu grabbed her first win of the season in dramatic fashion, carding a birdie on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to beat Suh.

The two finished regulation tied at 148 after rounds of 73 and 71, respectively. Suh improved six shots on Sunday.

Faith Low of YOC Mariner’s Point was third at 153 after rounds of 78-75. Jaclyn LaHa of Castlewood CC came in fourth at 154, while Sienna Lyford of YOC tftgs was fifth at 155.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Jalen Xing of YOC San Jose shot a final round 72 to come in at 152 and defeat runner-up Tylor Chou of Los Altos G&CC by a shot.

Third place was a tie between Julian Monas of Cameron Park and Camdan Indelicato of Spring Creek G&CC at 155. Monas took third in a card-off. Fifth place went to Reese Sato of YOC tftgs at 156.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Bridget O’Keefe of YOC South Bay defeated Varsha Ramachandran of E-Club East Bay on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Stella Lin of YOC East Bay was third at 159. Harper Clementz of YOC San Francisco and Kimberly Burch of YOC East Bay were fourth and fifth, respectively, at 160 and 162.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series VI Championship, to be held May 12-13 at Monarch Bay Golf Club in San Leandro.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 25, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series IV Championship at Franklin Canyon Golf Course in Hercules.

Olympic Club member Anthony Alioto shot 2-over 146 and E-Club East Bay member Mika Jin shot 1-under 143 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series IV Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Franklin Canyon Golf Course.

Alioto captured his first title of the season thanks to a second round 71 that gave him a one-shot win over a group of three players. In Sunday’s final round, Alioto, who opened with a 75, carded three birdies to go against just two bogeys. His biggest birdie came on the par-4 16th, and he’d follow that up with two pars for the win.

Darren Pang of E-Club East Bay, Paramdeep Sodhi of Youth on Course and Ryan Meyer of Oakdale G&CC all finished a shot back at 147. Sodhi would earn second place in a card-off, with Pang placing third.

All three players were in the running until a bogey within their final four holes.

Three players—Michael Vu of YOC East Bay, Jinhyuk Kim of E-Club South Bay and Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay GC—finished T-5 at 148.

In the Girls Championship, Jin got her second win of the season after posting a stellar 3-under 69 to defeat runner-up Madelyn Gamble of Richmond CC by two shots.

Jin, who shot 74 in the first round, caught fire on her final 11 holes, going 5-under with six birdies and a bogey. She’d be the only player to finish the event with a total score under par.

Gamble had a second round 74 to come in at 145, while Gia Feliciano of YOC East Bay was third at 148 after a 77.

Sofia Young of YOC North Bay and Anitra Khoth of Hampas Lupa GC finished T-4 at 149 after rounds of 71 and 75, respectively.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Jacob Ponce of YOC East Bay shot a final round 75 to come in at 148 and defeat runner-up Jonathan Le of YOC Santa Teresa by a stroke. Le had a final round 76.

Third place went to Chanhee Ryu of YOC Pleasanton at 153, fourth place went to Alexander Suen of YOC East Bay at 154 and fifth place went to Ashwath Ekambaram of YOC East Bay at 156.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Lauren Sung of YOC Santa Teresa shot a final round 80 to finish at 159 and defeated Chloe Weng of YOC Santa Teresa and Emily Luo of YOC Pleasanton in a playoff to win.

Weng earned second place after a card-off. Sydney Sung of YOC Santa Teresa was fourth at 160, while Camille Thai of YOC South Bay was fifth at 161.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series V Championship, to be held April 28-29 at Darkhorse Golf Club in Auburn.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 10, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series III Championship at Paso Robles Golf Club in Paso Robles.

Youth on Course Santa Teresa member Ethan Chung shot 3-under 137 and Ruby Hill GC member Katie Murphy shot 6-over 146 and defeated Alice Liu in a playoff to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series III Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-71 Paso Robles Golf Club.

Chung notched his third win of the season thanks to solid play in both rounds. In Saturday’s opener, he’d card a 3-under 69 featuring an eagle on the par-5 3rd and four birdies to offset a double-bogey and bogey.

A day later, Chung shot a 68 with five birdies and two bogeys. A clutch birdie on the closing 18th sealed a two-shot win over runner-up Alan Chen of E-Club Easy Bay. Chen posted a final round 69 but was held back by a pair of bogeys.

Third place went to Dakota Ochoa of E-Club Central Valley at 140 following a 69. Garrett Boe of YOC Fresno and Maverick Pavletich of E-Club Monterey Bay finished T-4 at 141 after rounds of 69 and 72, respectively.

In the Girls Championship, Murphy got her first win of the season after winning the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.

In Sunday’s finale, Murphy posted a 74 with four birdies and seven bogeys. She’d trip with a bogey on the 17th, but made a clutch birdie on the 18th to remain tied with Liu.

Liu, of Youth on Course Pleasanton, posted a final round 75 that featured a birdie and five bogeys. She’d card three straight pars to finish her round to stay tied with Murphy.

Both Jacqueline Ha of YOC Pleasanton and Madelyn Gamble of Richmond CC finished tied for third at 147 after rounds of 72, respectively. Ha earned third place via a card-off.

Fifth place went to Annie Liu of YOC Pleasanton at 149.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Gregory Mouser of YOC Fresno shot a final round 79 and defeated Jamison Tan of YOC Santa Teresa on the fourth hole of a sudden death playoff for the win. Both players finished regulation tied at 150.

Tan had a final round 77. Chanhee Ryu of YOC Pleasanton was third at 152, while Advaith Pathi of YOC Santa Teresa was fourth at 154. Benjamin Mouser of YOC Fresno and Jonathan Patrick Chen of YOC AT&T Pebble Beach were fifth at 164.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Stella Lin of YOC East Bay shot a final round 78 and defeated Celine Ho of E-Club South Bay on the second hole of a sudden death playoff for the win. Both players finished regulation at 156.

Ho had a final round 78. Kimberly Burch of YOC East Bay was third at 159, while Francesca Sumcad of YOC Santa Teresa and Camille Thai of YOC South Bay were T-4 at 161.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series IV Championship at Franklin Canyon Golf Club in Hercules.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 26, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series II First Flight Championships at par-72 Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View.

Jalen Xing, a member of Youth on Course South Bay Muni, shot 1-over 73 to edge runner-up Nathan Park and win the Boys’ First Flight title. Xing had three birdies to go against four bogeys.

Park, a member of YOC East Bay, shot 75 to finish alone in second place. Matthew Lee of YOC East Bay and Calton Kong of YOC Santa Teresa shot 76 to finish T-3. Lee earned third place in a card-off.

Curtis Dasila of YOC Monterey Bay, Calvin Kong of NCGA YOC Santa Teresa and Travis Clauson of Ironwood CC all finished T-5 with rounds of 77.

Syndey Sung, a member of Youth on Course Santa Teresa, shot 6-over 78 and defeated Kristina Oh on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff with a birdie to win the Girls’ First Flight crown.

Sung had a clutch birdie on the 16th in regulation. Oh, a member of YOC Santa Teresa, fell back with bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes.

Three players—Nicole Iniakov of YOC Monterey Bay, Tina Xu of NCGA and Darla May Dela Torre of YOC East Bay—all finished T-3 with identical scores of 79.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 26, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series II Championship at Coyote Creek Golf Club in San Jose.

Folsom resident Paramdeep Sodhi shot 2-under 142 and San Jose resident Kaleiya Romero shot 2-over 146 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series II Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Valley Course at Coyote Creek.

Sodhi notched his first win of the season thanks to great play in the second round. On Sunday, Sodhi posted six birdies to go against just three bogeys.

On the front-nine, Sodhi had four birdies for a 34. He’d card an even-par 35 on the back-nine to defeat runner-up Ethan Chung of Cupertino by a stroke. In the first round, Sodhi posted a 73.

Chung, the Boys’ points leader entering the championship, had rounds of 70-73. On Sunday, Chung got to a total of 3-under with a birdie on No.2. He’d go on, however, to bogey holes No.7 and Nos.10-12 to fall back to 1-over. Two late birdies weren’t enough to catch Sodhi.

Third place went to Ryan Grauman of Alamo with a two-day score of 144 following a final round 73. Akira Asayama of Palo Alto and Carlos Arieta Winsett of Los Altos finished T-4 at 146 after rounds of 73 and 75, respectively.

In the Girls Championship, Romero got her first JTNC victory of the season, carding a final round 74 to defeat runner-up Katherine Zhu of San Jose by two shots.

Romero was steady in both rounds, shooting 72-74. On Saturday, she’d card three birdies to offset three bogeys. A day later, Romero again posted three birdies to go against three bogeys and a double-bogey. In two other starts, Romero had finished T-3.

Zhu had a final round 73 to come in at 148.

Four players—Charlotte Ryoo of Pleasanton, Madelyn Gamble of Pleasant Hill, San Jose’s Angela Liu and Santa Clara’s Andrea Gomez—finished T-3 at 150.

Katelyn Vo of San Jose had the shot of the tournament, acing the 159-yard par-3 11th in the first round.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series III Championship, to be held April 7-8 at Paso Robles GC in Paso Robles.

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (March 19, 2018) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group, the 2017-2018 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Thursday at the Spring Series I Championship at Stockton Golf and Country Club and Elkhorn Golf Club in Stockton.

Olivehurst resident Trey Davis shot 3-over 145 and defeated Darren Pang of San Ramon in a playoff and Roseville resident Sienna Lyford shot 10-over 152 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-71 Stockton G&CC and par-71 Elkhorn GC.

Davis nabbed his first win of the season by making a par on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff versus Pang. Davis made his big move with a sizzling first round 5-under 66 at Elkhorn. He’d card six birdies—including a stretch of three in a row—to go against one bogey.

In Sunday’s finale, he’d fall back with a 79 that let Pang back into it. Coming off a first round 74, Pang posted 14 pars, two birdies and a bogey to force a playoff.

Placing third at 146 after a final round 74 was Manteca’s Ty Griggs. Griggs had a chance to join the playoff but bogeyed the 18th .

Alamo’s Ryan Grauman and Lodi’s Justin Gums both finished T-4 at 147 after final rounds of 71 and 76, respectively.

In the Girls Championship, Lyford got her first win of the season following a great comeback. A day after shooting 81, Lyford posted 14 pars with two birdies and two bogeys to hold off runner-up Angela Bagasbas of Danville by two shots.

Entering the championship, Lyford had two runner-ups and a third place finish. Bagasbas had back-to-back rounds of 77. She’d card five birdies in the final round but also had a double-bogey and triple-bogey.

Four players—Jacqueline Ha of San Ramon, Selena Tang of Fremont, Santa Clara’s Andrea Gomez and Kaleiya Romero of San Jose—all finished T-3 at 156.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Nathan Jetton of El Dorado had a final round 67 to come in at 144, defeating co-runners-up William Bensch of Stockton and Curtis DaSilva of Marina by five strokes. Bensch had a second round 70 that featured 19 putts!

Fourth place went to Aditya Das of Fremont at 153, while Folsom’s Reese Sato was fifth at 154.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Abigail Leighton of Santa Rosa had a final round 82 to come in at 163 and defeated Nikki Chindavong of Fairfield in a playoff two win. Chindavong shot 85 in the final round.

Third place went to Harper Clementz of San Francisco at 166, while Kaylen Tu of Orinda was fourth at 167. Camille Thai of Los Altos and Amelia Garibaldi of Stockton were T-5 at 173.

Next up on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series II Championship, slated for March 24-25 at Coyote Creek GC in San Jose. The First Flight will be at Shoreline GL on March 24.
