Amelia Garibaldi and Chanhee Ryu took home the titles at the annual JTNC Tour Championship at Poppy Hills.

Garibaldi shot a final round 74 and defeated Asterisk Talley on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to claim the win. Talley also shot a 74 as both players came in with 36-hole score of 150.

Third place went to Kaylyn Noh at 151 after a final round 76.

Ryu, who opened with a 2-under 69, shot a second round 72 to come in at 1-under 141 for a three-shot win over Jay Healy. Healy had a second round 70. Third place went to Jaden Dumdumaya at 145 after a 71.

The championship was sponsored by CIG Insurance. President and CEO Andy Doll was on hand during the award presentations.

Players of the Year

Adora Liu, who finished T-4 in the Girls’ Championship, claimed 2020-21 Girls’ Player of the Year honors.

“It means a lot to me,” said Liu, a 16-year-old senior at Irvington High in Fremont. “I put in a lot of work, and I won quite a few tournaments. I’m proud that I’m Player of the Year.”

Liu described her season as somewhat of a roller coaster.

“I had a pretty good start to the season, then I kind of had a break,” she said. “Then I got going again. It was up and down.”

Jaden Dumdumaya, a 15-year-old sophomore at De La Salle High, won Boys’ Player of the Year honors. Dumdumaya won a JTNC record five events during the season, and moved into a tie for third for most JTNC wins all-time (six) with Bryson DeChambeau and Joshua McCarthy. The only players ahead of him are Thomas Hutchison (nine) and Justin Suh (11).

“Winning Player of the Year means a lot to me because of all the hard work I’ve put in,” Dumdumaya said. “I wouldn’t be here either without my family. I’m thankful for them.”

At the Summer Series II Championship at Poppy Ridge, Dumdumaya set a JTNC record for lowest winning score (14-under par). His second round score of 9-under 63 is the second lowest 18 hole score in JTNC history. The lowest remains a 10-under 62 shot by Scott Munger at the 2012 Fall Series IV Championship.

“This is definitely one of the best seasons I’ve had,” Dumdumaya said. “I feel that I’m on the right track. Tying Bryson DeChambeau, he’s an amazing golfer. My dream is to be a pro golfer. As per the records, I’m definitely chasing them more.”
