Summer Series II–Poppy Ridge

Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Summer Series II Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore

 

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 17, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Thursday at the Summer Series II Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.

Matthew Almajano shot 1-under par 143 and defeated Nathan Lee in a sudden-death playoff and Cathy Zhang shot 3-over par 147 and defeated Sarah Yeh in a sudden-death playoff to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series II Championship held Wednesday and Thursday at par-72 Poppy Ridge Golf Course.

With their wins, Almajano and Zhang earned spots into this year’s PGA Junior Championship and PGA Junior Girls’ Championship, respectively.

A runner-up over the weekend, Almajano notched his second win of the 2021-22 season with solid play both days. In Wednesday’s opener, he’d post four birdies to go against three bogeys. On Thursday, Almajano had two birdies on the back-nine to help get him in the playoff.

Lee in the first round had a front-nine 33 that included four birdies through his first five holes. He’d get into the playoff thanks to a clutch birdie on the 18th in regulation.

Chad Flory was third at 144 after a final round 69. Leland Tsai was fourth at 145 and Jayden Lizama was fifth at 146.

In the Girls’ Championship, Zhang earned her third win of the season with solid play. In Wednesday’s opener she’d card a back-nine 34 that included a run of four birdies in a row. A day later, Zhang was steady posting 15 pars to go against three bogeys.

Yeh made a move in the final round with two birdies on her front-nine. She’d post a 73.

Third place went to Lily Peng  at 148 after a 76. Selena Tang and Michelle Ho tied for fourth at 152.

Three players—Darla May DeLa Torre, Abigail Lin and Petra Yee—all finished T-4 at 149.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Reagan Baker carded a final round 73 to come in at 150 and defeat runner-up Max Canny by two. Canny had a final round 75.

Luke Swanson was third at 153. Three players—Ryan Pupach, Christopher Chang and Aiden Lew—finished T-4 at 154.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Jayleen Sito had a final round 87 to come in at 162 and defeat runner-up Cynthia Liu by a stroke. Liu had a final round 82.

Hayley Fong was third at 170. Riley Jiang was fourth at 182.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the First Flight Tournament to be held June 26 at Coyote Creek Golf Course in San Jose.

Summer Series I-Reserve at Spanos Park

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 13, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Summer Series I Championship at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.

Clark van Gaalen shot 4-under par 140 and Asterisk Talley shot 5-under par 139 to win their respective divisions at the Summer Series I Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Van Gaalen earned his fourth win of the 2021-22 season thanks to steady play over his 36-holes. In Saturday’s opener, he’d post four birdies to offset a pair of bogeys. On Sunday, he’d card seven birdies to go against a bogey and two double-bogeys.

With the win, van Gaalen is now just one more win away from tying Jaden Dumdumaya’s record for most wins in a season (five).

Runner-up Matthew Almajano came in at 142 after a final round 69. Third place went to Trenton Smart at 146.

Brandon Torres was fourth at 148, while Dawson Loo and Richard Ding came in T-5 at 150.

In the Girls’ Championship, Talley notched her record-setting ninth win of the season, passing Sabrina Iqbal for the all-time Girls’ JTNC record for most wins in a season.

In Saturday’s opener, Talley posted a 70 that included five birdies to go against three bogeys. A day later, she’d post a solid 69 with four birdies and just one bogey.

Runner-up Sammie Miller came in at 143 after a final round 68. Sofia Fernando was third at 147.

Three players—Darla May DeLa Torre, Abigail Lin and Petra Yee—all finished T-4 at 149.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Ian Cheng shot a final round 72 to come in at 147 and defeat runner-up Ethan Cheng by six shots. Ethan had a final round 76.

Eunyule Ko and Robby Croslow were T-3 at 155. Aidan Fippin and Hyunha Na came in T-5 at 156.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Paavni Behl shot a final round 72 to come in at 153 and defeat runner-up Chloe Ku by two shots. Ku had a final round 77.

Third place was shared by Jayleen Sito and Cynthia Liu at 158. Sito won third place in a card-off. Chelsea Kim was fifth at 159.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Summer Series II Championship, to be held June 15-16 at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.

Spring Series VIII Championship-Rooster Run

Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series VIII Championship at Rooster Run Golf Club in Petaluma

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 31, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series VIII Championship at Rooster Run Golf Club in Petaluma.

Charlie Farrell shot 5-over par 149 and defeated Ryan Cavanaugh in a sudden-death playoff and Cathy Zhang shot 3-over par 147 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Rancho Murieta Country Club.

Farrell notched his first win of the season, winning on the first playoff hole (par-5 18th). In regulation, Farrell fired a final round 73 that included five birdies. The 73 was enough to catch Cavanaugh, who went from an opening-round 72 to 77.

Alex Lemmon was third at 151 after a final round 75. Drake Smith was fourth at 152 and Eddie Zhang and Dawson Loo finished T-5 at 153.

 

In the Girls’ Championship, Zhang shot an even-par 72 that included three birdies and a clutch eagle on the par-5 18th to knock off runner-up Amy Na by two shots. At the time of the eagle, Zhang and Na were tied for the lead.

Na had a final round 73 to finish alone in second place at 149. Lily Peng and Caroline Chung tied for third at 150. Madalynn Lee claimed fifth place at 153.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Summer Series I Championship, to be held June 11-12 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.

Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series VII Championship at Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park 

 

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 31, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the First Flight Tournament at Foxtail GC in Rohnert Park.

Sai Kaneshiro shot 5-over 77 to defeat co-runners-up Melody Chen and Giana Main by four strokes. Jayleen Sito was fourth at 82, while Cynthia Liu was fifth at 83.

In the Boys’ Championship, Brian Yu shot 72 to win by one over co-runners-up William Chang, Sahil Nathoo and Will MacKinnon. Eunyule Ko and Dylan Hidayat were T-5 at 75.

 

Spring Series VII Championship-Rancho Murieta

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 16, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series VII Championship at Rancho Murieta Country Club in Rancho Murieta.

Clark van Gaalen shot 5-under par 137 and Asterisk Talley shot even par 144 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VII Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Rancho Murieta Country Club.

 

Van Gaalen earned his third win of the 2021-22 season thanks in part to a solid first round 5-under 67 that included three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 15th. A day later, van Gaalen tacked on another five birdies to go against three bogeys. The three wins in a season tied him for third all-time behind record holder Jaden Dumdumaya (five) and further increased his lead in the race for Boys’ Player of the Year honors.

Ben Ragland was runner-up at 139 after a final round 70. Dumdumaya was third at 140 following a final round 69.

Joshua Wang placed fourth at 149. Three players—Ian Vodopich, Ben Friedman and Ishdeep Sodhi—tied for fifth at 151.

In the Girls’ Championship, Talley notched her eighth win of the season, tying Sabrina Iqbal for the all-time Girls’ JTNC record for most wins in a season.

Talley was again steady, posting rounds of 71-73 to defeat runner-up Nikki Chindavong by two shots. Talley posted five total birdies, including three in a row in the first round.

Chindavong made a charge in the second round, carding a 70 that included three birdies and a hole-out eagle on the par-4 9th.

Lily Peng was third at 148 after a final round 72. Michelle Woo was fourth at 149 and Abigail Lin was fifth at 152.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Andrew Oh shot a final round 77 to come in at 152 and defeat runner-up William Hardy by a stroke. Hardy had a final round 76.

Third place went to Ian Cheng at 155, while Brody Nigel was fourth at 158. Agilan Ramakrishnan tied for fifth with Ethan Cheng at 162.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Tiffany Chang had a final round 78 to come in at 1658 and defeat runner-up Jayleen Sito by six shots. Sito had a final round 164.

Third place went to Veronica Cantu Maher at 176. Olivia Pocat was fourth at 184 and Riley Jiang was fifth at 192.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series VIII Championship, to be held May 28-29 at Rooster Run Golf Club in Petaluma.

Mother’s Day First Flight–Del Monte

JTNC Crowns Champions at the Mother’s Day First Flight Championship at Del Monte

Samantha Chiou shot 4-over 76 to win the Girls’ title by four shots over Victoria Cui. Erin Le Nguyen was third at 82. Saisha Vibhute was fourth at 85 and Jayleen Sito was fifth at 86.

In the Boys’ Championship, Danish Sharma took the title with a score of 7-over 79. Brandon Pantaleon was second at 80, while Aiden Lew and Maximus Choi both finished third at 81. Choi earned third place via a card-off. Jayden Jew, Ethan Wang and Euyule Ko were T-5 at 82.

 

Spring Series VI Championship–Coyote Creek

Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series VI Championship at Coyote Creek Golf Club in San Jose

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 2, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series VI Championship at Coyote Creek Golf Club in San Jose.

Calvin Kong shot 2-over par 146 and Madalyn Lee shot 6-over par 150 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series VI Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Coyote Creek Golf Club.

Kong earned his first victory of the 2021-22 season thanks to a solid final-round 2-under 70 that included a winning birdie on the closing 18th hole. On the front-nine, Kong posted a 3-under 34 that included birdies on holes Nos. 2 and 3.

Finishing just a stroke behind Kong at 147 were Joshua Wang and Aditya Das, who each shot a final round 71. Wang had a par on 18 while Das made birdie. Wang would earn second place after a card-off (lower back-nine score).

Ben Ragland was fourth at 149. Logan Mills placed fifth at 150.

In the Girls’ Championship, Lee also earned her first win of the 2021-22 season. She’d also win by a stroke, carding a final round 76 to hold off runner-up Nicole Iniakov by one.

Lee, who played her front-nine at 1-under thanks to two birdies, made a clutch par on 18 to seal the win. Iniakov closed with a birdie on 18 to keep the pressure on.

Three players—Riley Yang, Cathy Zhang and Kara Lee—finished tied for third at 156.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, three players—Maximus Choi, William Chang and Nicholas Le—all came in tied for first at 13-over 157. Choi was awarded first place after a card-off, with Le taking second and Chang placing third.

Danish Sharma was fourth at 158. Richard Ding and Parker Woo were T-5 at 159.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Samantha Chiou shot a final round 74 to come in at 152 and defeat runner-up Tiffany Chang by eight shots. Chang had a final round 80.

Chelsie Chin and Kayla Corcoran finished tied for third at 164. Saisha Vibhute was fifth at 165.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the First Flight Mother’s Day Tournament, to be held May 9 at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey.

Spring Series V Championship–Yolo Fliers Club

Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series V Championship at Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 25, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series V Championship at Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland.

Clark van Gaalen shot even par 144 and defeated Matthew Shimizu in a playoff and Asterisk Talley 2-over par 144 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series V Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Yolo Fliers Club.

Van Gaalen earned his second win of the 2021-22 season in dramatic fashion, knocking off Shimizu in a sudden-death playoff. Both players had identical rounds of 70-74 in regulation.

The win was redemption for Van Gaalen. He had closed with a triple-bogey to allow Shimizu to catch him. Prior to the triple-bogey, Van Gaalen was 3-under thru his back-nine. Shimizu played the front-nine at 4-over before turning things around on the back.

Colin Keith placed third at 145 after a final round 73. Keith had a chance to join the playoff but could only muster pars on his final four holes.

Carlos Feliciano, Jacob Larson and Jaden Dumdumaya all finished T-4 at 148.

In the Girls’ Championship, Talley had back-to-back rounds of 73 to claim a historic six-shot victory. With the win, Talley earned her 10th career JTNC title, moving to fourth place on the all-time win list. Talley also earned her seventh win of the 2021-22, putting her just one behind Sabrina Iqbal’s JTNC record of eight wins in one season.

Darla May Dela Torre was second at 152 after a final round 72, while Ryan Flynn was third at 154.

Sophia Bardunias and Nikki Chindavong finished T-4 at 156.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, four players—Alejandro Formosa, Mason Sylvester, Ian Cheng and Sahil Nathoo—all finished regulation tied at 9-over 153. Formosa won the playoff, with Sylvester placing second and Cheng placing third.

William Chang was fifth at 156.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Katherine Keith shot a final round 77 to come in at 10-over 154 and defeat runner-up Victoria Cui by six shots. Cui had a final round 79.

Kayla Corcoran was third at 161, while Sai Kaneshiro was fourth at 163. Erin Le Nguyen and Tiffany Chang were T-5 at 166.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series VI Championship, set for April 30-May 1 at Coyote Creek Golf Club in San Jose.

 

Spring Series IV–Rancho Solano and Paradise Valley

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 11, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series IV Championship at Rancho Solano GC and Paradise Valley GC in Fairfield.

Alex Lemmon shot even par 144 and Gianna Singh 3-over par 147 and defeated Nikki Chindavong in a playoff to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series IV Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-72 Rancho Solano and Paradise Valley.

Lemmon earned his first win of the season, thanks in part to a final round 71 that included four clutch birdies on the back-nine. Overall, Lemmon posted 10 birdies over his 36 holes.

Both Carson Limpus and Andre Zhang finished tied for second at 146 after final rounds of 72. Limpus was awarded second place in a card-off.

Three players—Lukas Taggart, Will Hoff and Zachery Pollo—finished T-4 at 147.

In the Girls’ Championship, Singh would win in a sudden-death playoff with a par (1st hole) after coming in with a solid final round score of 70. Singh made a charge in regulation on the front-nine on Sunday, posting a 3-under 33 with three birdies.

Chindavong had a final round 73 and made bogey in the playoff to finish as runner-up. Asterisk Talley, back from competing at Augusta National in the Drive, Chip and Putt Finals, was third at 149 after a final round 75.

Three players—Darla May DeLa Torre, Amelia Rae Greenlee and Ellie Bushnell—finished T-4 at 150.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Griffin Chiu shot a final round 75 to come in at 149 and defeated runner-up Harrison Hashimoto in a card-off. Hashimoto had a final round 77.

Third place went to Alejandro Formosa at 152. Mario Stump was fourth at 153 and Ian Cheng was fifth at 155.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Samantha Chiou shot a final round 79 to come in at 160 and defeat runner-up Paavni Behl in a card-off. Behl also had a final round 79.

Jayleen Sito was third at 161. Erin Le Nguyen and Melody Chen tied for fourth at 165.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series V Championship, set for April 23-24 at Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland.

 

 

Spring Series III Championship–DeLaveaga

Junior Golf Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners at Spring Series III Championship at DeLaveaga Golf Club in Santa Cruz

 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 4, 2022) –The 2021-2022 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions Sunday at the Spring Series III Championship at DeLaveaga Golf Club in Santa Cruz.

Edan Cui shot 1-under par 139 and Cathy Zhang shot 5-over 145 to win their respective divisions at the Spring Series III Championship held Saturday and Sunday at par-70 DeLaveaga GC.

Cui earned his first win of the season, thanks in part to a solid 3-under final round 67 that included four birdies and a bogey. He’d play his final nine holes at 2-under to hold off runner-up Clark van Gaalen by three shots. The top two players in the Boys’ and Girls’ Championship and First Flights who have not already qualified (or earned an exemption) earned spots into the upcoming NorCal qualifier for the Notah Begay Championship.

In Saturday’s opener, Cui posted a 72. Van Gaalen, who opened with a 73, carded a final round 69. Third place went to Kyler Heath at 144 after a final round 70.

Arnold He and Michael Sorber finished T-4 at 145.

In the Girls’ Championship, Zhang won her first event of the 2021-22 season thanks to a solid final round 2-under 69 that included four birdies and three bogeys.

In the first round, Zhang posted a 76. Cindy Wang placed second at 148 after a final round 75. Third place went to Abigail Lin at 150 following a 74.

Madelyn Lee and Norah Yang finished T-4 at 152.

In the Boys’ First Flight Championship, Richard Ding shot a final round 77 to come in at 152 and defeat runner-up Brandon Pantaleon by two shots. Pantaleon had a final round 77.

Third place went to Amo Wehle at 156. Aiden Chuah was fourth at 158 and Danish Sharma was fifth at 159.

In the Girls’ First Flight Championship, Addison Claire Lee shot a final round 70 to come in at 147 and defeat runner-up Saisha Vibhute by eight shots. Vibute had a final round 77.

Third place went to Kayla Corcoran at 165. Sal Kaneshiro was fourth at 168 and Ashley Gettleman was fifth at 169.

The next event on the JTNC calendar is the Spring Series IV Championship, set for April 9-10 at Paradise Valley and Rancho Solano Golf Course in Fairfield.
